I recently bought a new laptop computer and it doesnt have the paralell port on it fot the printer. So I bought a usb to parralell adapter. I can't make it work. Has anyone ran into this before? I have spent way to much time trying to figure this out on my own.
Thank you,

JAKE

Jake. I'm not familiar with the colorcamms but I do know that Roland suggests that....

1: Do not use a printer cable any longer than 6 feet.
2: Do NOT use a switch box, as might be used to switch between 2 printers.

I would think that is a simple switch box can cause problems then a USB to Parallel adapter might also cause problems. Best bet would be to call or e-mail Roland tech support for confirmation one way or the other.

Jake I just bought a usb to serial made by belkin, when I installed the software it made the adapeter com5 so I could set up my 30" plotter on com5 now. I would assume you would have to check in device manager whether it recognises the adapter as a port on the system.

for example you should have LPT 1 & 2 after installation.

Btw the serial port went in smoothly and works flawlessly just for comparison.

Jake,

Typically WinXP/2000 will automatically recognize the USB - Parallel cable and install it as a port called USB00X (i.e. USB001 USB002).

Ensure you select this new port as the one to print to. Where to change this depends on which software you are using.

Well I am still working on it. Thanks for your time Bob I found the part we were talking about on e-bay down in Texas $25.00 after shipping, brand new, must have been a dealer who bought out an old inventory.

Keep us posted on how you make out Jake, I do beleive adding a physical port should fix your problem, this is a problem we all will have to face in the near future so the remedy is important.

It turns out the part runs through a USB port.
So now we are trying to figure out if it is going to do the same thing as the cord I already have.

Jake, if you're talking about a port replicator, I wish you good luck. I had one on the dell (from hell) for the same reason, no parallel port. I can't remember if it named the ports on the replicator as what they really were or gave them funky names. Considering I could rarely get it to work, my first question on purchasing the awesome Vaio I now have was "what ports does it have?"

Kissy,
That was what I was talking about, I am getting desperate, trying everything. We found one for $25 after shipping so it is a cheap gamble. I guess that my great deal on a used machine is costing me more than a new one would have. Gotta love computers.
