We are doing a maltese cross for a customer that brought us a picture of it on a fire truck. It has a ring that is engine turned but has a blue tint on it. I figured we could engine turn aluminum leaf and then coat it with a frog juice 1shot mix. That worked oK on a practice piece, but I was wondering if anyone else has a better way to do the tinting. It kind of has an anodized look to it. Thanks in advance.

Eric,
Get yourself some 1-Shot Super Gloss Tinting Clear.(not UV Clear in the white-labeled can)
Just a few drops of any color 1-Shot added to it gives you some nifty shades that are transparent.
It's so much fun to experiment with, but sometimes it's difficult to find. And it only comes in a pint can.

Or try one of the pearlescent 1-Shots. They are VERY transparent, but metallic-looking too. They must be stirred frequently.

Have fun. Love...Jill

Jill, [Applause]

I bought a quart of 1-Shot super gloss tinting clear 4006 in a quart can from Pacific Coast Paint and Sign Company in Portland-a merchant here.

Here's a link to the catalogue page:

Eric,

Duplicolor makes an 2 part annodized paint called "Metalcast" which is avaiable at department and auto part stores. It is available in blue.

Metalcast paint.

Hope this helps...

I do that kind of thing using Candy colors and clearcoat with an airbrush and most vehicle artists do it the same way.
