I got a customer who wants me to get HARLEY's decal off from his tank, then paint it the same color & do the airbrush design. As you know HARLEY put a coat of clear coat over the decal to cover it. I'm planing to remove all the paint from the tank, then wet sand it, primed and paint it same color. My QUESTION IS---- If there is any other way to do it without removeing all the paint from the tank? Any help or idea, I'll appreciate at advance.

I'm not sure how the dealer is there, but you may could trade the stock tanks in towards the purchase of new primed tanks from Harley. I'm not sure what they cost anymore, but the cost may not be much different than you would charge to strip and prime it

You could try sanding the clear off the top of the decal and peeling it up (I've never attempted this so you're the guinea pig) but there's still going to be an image of the decal on the tank where it kept the paint from fading.
Stripping it and repainting or getting a replacement tank from harley are definitely your best bets.

I agree with the others. Don't touch the stock tanks. Aftermarket or OE Harley tanks are the way to go, financially. Resell the stock painted body ...

Yes! You can wet sand the area that has the decal then remove the decal and residue, sand smooth with 600. Tape off the area inside the pinstripes. Lay in primer just on the area that needs it NOT to the edge of the tape at all. You will see it when you are done. Sand with 600 and shoot in your color. Do your art work then untape and clear. We even fix dents that fall into this area this same way. We do it all the time. Take your time and no one will be able to tell. If I nedd to show pics that this is the way to go just ask

I have, many times, sanded the clear off the decal, and removed it. It's even got factory color underneath it!
I sand the tanks with 800, and if you're fortunate enough to have tanks with the "teardrop" stripes, you can mask off there, reshoot the factory background color up to the stripes, and airbrush whatever you need to inside that teardrop "picture frame".
Then just reclear the tanks en mass.
I'm thinking back, and I've done it a couple of dozen times.
