Hey, I live in upstate NY, and i have only one question......With all the real rust around, who needs Faux rust? Heck, here even the Corvettes get scrapped for rust damage. My 92 Toyota longbed wouldn't exist if it weren't for Bondo...

Just had to say it..and.... I'm offerring a free special to anyone who wants to see real world examples....

Free rust samples to the first 20 visitors....and the rest of ya probably will collect enough on your car trying to find Stephentown anyhow!

Now removing tongue from cheek.. :-)

Just an idea, Mike.

Mask the area and lay down a base of a burnt orange color. Add some tinting black and fire red to the color, thin it, and spatter it on lightly with a toothbrushwhile still wet...should look like pitting.
Then take out the mighty airbrush and work some shading into it.

I'd flatten the colors with red or white carpenters chaulk, baby powder...whatever to kill the gloss.

Hmmmmmm, this might actually work....
Hope it helps...

I just did a Faux rust finish on some signs for Neon Sign Systems. My basic recipe is One-Shot Browns, Orange, Imi Gold, Vermilliom, and a little warmed Black and dirty dark green, all mixed with tinting clear and a flattening paste. I take a black foam roller and pinch out some of foam . Pour the paint(s) in a holder, and start rollin it out. Come back with an airbrush for darkening areas and painting the driping rust parts. Of course different metals rust in different ways. Painted metals (Poles) even have the paint still visible, but it would be all curled up on the edges, drying and flaking off. Nuts, seams etc. usually have rust "Drips" coming down out of them. Just pick up any old rusty thing and paint what ya see.
PS I still want Rhonda's Spinach Salad recipe.

What about Rod "Ticks" Tickle. Take a look back at this profile on him at http://www.letterhead.com/profiles/ticks/index.html

Checkout his ute...er...pickup truck.

Any plans of coming our way in the near future Mike? I'm still dreaming of a Letterville PT. All I need is money. [Smile]
