Jerry's review reminded me that I wanted to post this job I printed last night.

A few folks may recall me mentioning a client-fron-hell on chat last week... Actually she wasn't as bad as some, because she wasn't afraid to spend money.

Our communication didn't go as smooth as some... but she had something very particular in mind that was difficult to articulate, but easy to critique untill it was right. In the end she was happy with the results & paid about $500 in design fees & $600 for large digital edge prints for her boat.

 -

The top is the completed design & it was printed twice 30" x 48" & once 20" x 32"
The lower left image is from a painting on her boat done years ago. A lot of you folks could have just went & painted it again, but that is not one of the skills I have to offer, so I worked in photoshop. The lower center image is the clients daughter. Apparently the mom wanted the daughters face used for the new logo, but the daughter refused to allow that. They compromised by having me use the photo, but work from the hair & profile of the sketch at the lower right to change it.

Eyecandy has a "fur" filter & the first time I tried it just goofing around, I thought to myself that I would never use it, but I was very pleased with the results of creating hair with highlights, waves, & the effect of individual strands.

Super job Doug [Applause] I love it. It is very different from anything on the boats here. Bet this "spurs" more boat jobs for ya.

Nice Doug,

Just out of curiousity, what's the life expectancy of digital prints on a boat down there?

That is a good question Brian, & I honestly don't have much experience with that. I figure the reflected light will make them fade more like a horizontal vehicle graphic even if they are installed on a vertical face. I will recommend frog-juice after the install is done (client will install)

I've done some prints on one boat a year or so ago, but most of that market is on the other side of the island so I need to check what that last boat looks like to help answer those questions.

Nice job, Doug! It's nice when something nice comes along, isn't it!

whoops, that nice redundancy/repition wan't quite intended, though the thoughts were.

Cool job Doug! (cool's the wettest word I could come up with on the spur of the moment- trying to save keystrokes and get two uses from the one word)

I agree, it is nice when something cool comes along. Sometimes I find myself wishing I knew how to do various techniques in photoshop correctly the first time with no wasted motions, but then, if I'm able to get my mind off other job deadlines, the process becomes an enjoyable learning experience & it is rewarding in the end to have something with a little more of my own creative contribution in both the problem solving aspect, & the newly aquired computer graphic skills involved.
