Just wondering if anyone has been watching this years build-off shows. So far they have devoted more time than they have on other show to the painting and striping. Monday night they had nice pieces on the gold leafing that went on the bikes. It's funny since coming to Letterville all I watch these shows for is the quick little blip on the paint.

Oh yeah! I love those programs! I wish they had a "building" channel on 24 / 7. Cars, and bikes. But then I'd never get anything done. I don't own a bike, or plan on getting one anytime soon, but I love watching people build things with their hands, not their mouses, if you know what I mean. The painting couple they had on the other night, from Oregon (I think), were obnoxious!! That guy was a legend in his own mind. They both had TERRIBLE attitudes! The builder from Japan (Chica) was a character. He had a bitchin logo, and work shirts. The two guys that are scheduled to be on tonight should be entertaining. Oh yeah, at least they showed someone doing REAL gold leafing the other night. Not like the poser from OCC, with his applying Sign Gold vinyl, calling it "the lost art of gilding".

The one thing that through me off on the Build off on the red bike they say they were using real gold. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't real gold come in 3 3/8 inch squares not 5 1/2. I thought 5 1/2 was composite only. It just caught my eye when I saw him doing the leaf and calling it 22 caret. "Yes I know I'm anal"

Hello everyone. i havent been back here in years. havent done any sign work for years either. But am thinking about doing some woodcarved rustic type signs have been carving for a living for several years now. i agree with luke i watched the couple Painters and thought the exact same thing.Apparently he cant give a customer what they want , just his attitude. I have long wanted to learn gold leafing.Even have a book by Kent Smith? been a while since i looked at it. I would welcome any advice on products, best place to buy. i'm in Oxford,In. would be doing it on wood primarily and metal some. I have a gerber gsi5 plotter and i almost bought a short piece of signgold but got scared off it. it seemed to come loose from the paper backing real easy. thought it would be a problem. Money was tight too. seems like i read you have to seal the edges of sign gold? I may well try it again, but still want to learn gold leafing. Someday glue chipping and gold leaf on glass. What little i have seen is absolutely stunning. Never seen it in person, but on the internet. Money is tight again, i was disabled all winter and am having to sidestep in what i do for a living. looking at different things to produce. best size to use? Very sad to hear Rick from Esoteric died. what a major loss. Esoteric still in business? I dont think there is any place in indiana that carries anything for gold leafing. I dont know what i need to get started.Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. My phone is 765-385-2746 if anyone wants to call. otherwise you could e-mail me. rcarves@hotmail.com thank you kindly.rick woodward.

I watched a little bit on Monday night and was ready to strangle the crotch-rocket chick who was so vague about what she wanted painted. Now last night, I liked the French-talking skull-painting guy. But why were the skulls on the sides of the tank done in white, while the ones on the rest of the tank were ivory/bone colored? That bugged me. And the Southern guy had a great sign! OCC needs to hire his sign guy. I liked how he had a Pinup gal painted on the blue bike. I like how the show devotes a lot of air time to the painters. Love...Jill

Love the build off shows. I gotta agree that those "custom painters"-the couple from Canada-the biker chick was based in Vancouver-they had sh*tty attitudes. I woulda kicked that guys *ss had he talked to me like that. Sure, maybe the chick didn't know exactly what she wanted, but it's his job to help her with that. And right off the bat he was a d*ck-totally vetoing her colors-it's one thing to voice an opinion on what you should do, but no way should he have been that rude. She's paying the money, if she wants it her way, do it that way and collect the money. Another thing that bothered me about that couple was that they could have done some airbrushed streaks for the "warp" effect in the amount of time it took them to mask and cut out htat crappy shred design they had.
