I remember when I first got a decent car that I could do a little street racing with, that when you saw a rig sitting at a light you would just cruise up real slow an give a signal an it was on. Anyway I think its all backwards now. I see people all the time driving like a mad fiend to get to the light and almost not bein' able to stop. Kinda freaky if you ask me. Wearing out them brakes too. And then they dont race. Thats what gets me. but all of a sudden they jam to the stop light to see if they can get there first. In my day it was about getting off the line. Its backwards. Maybe everything is thatway.

Actually in my day job I never even see the lights until I am under them....and by then they are all a dark orange color.
That's why they make me have all these pretty flashing lights on my truck. :-)

As if gas isnt already expensive enough! I usually chuckle at these idiots, dont get upset anymore.. I'll mutter 'I'll catch up with them at the next red light' when they blow by me doing 90 or 'Goodyear loves ya!' when they squeal wheels.
Everyone is in a hurry.. See countless speeders, people blow by red lights or stop signs.. Putting on makeup, eating breakfast, shaving, reading the paper (!!!) or conducting morning cell-phone meetings. Call me stupid, but I figure if I need a bit of extra time in the morning i'll set my alarm to wake me up earlier.
I also personally love those who dont want to be bothered with having to clean out their ash trays. Why do that when the road is a bottomless, smokeless ash tray?

I couldn't rush to a light or peel away roasting tires even if I wanted to. My truck takes its own sweet time, especially when I'm running the A/C. Gotta love that 2.3L and 23MPG "city" driving.

Jack, funny observation! Hehehe. You're right...everyone is racing to see who can stop first.
Instead of highlighting the engine size with an emblem on the fender, the auto manufacturers should have an emblem of the brake pads....
...you know, instead of "5.7 V8" it should say "Bosch Semi Metallic/ 4Way Disks". Then people could go, "Wow man, did you see that sweet car with the awesome pads?!"

Hey Jack, you ever do the bit where you move off the line quickly about 2 feet, just to let 'em know you could've if you wanted to?
Todd, that's funny. People sure don't seem to have a lot of thoughts about cause and effect these days.
I once read about these 'races' they would have back in the '60's, to see who could get from point A to point B on the least amount of fuel. It's fun to try and imitate that practice. Gets you thinking about the laws of physics.

Jack, I spent the best part of my teenage driving years on Woodward Ave. I always had my mom's car and it was pretty fast. I'd pull to a light, look over to see if the guys were good looking, if they were, my girlfriends and I would give THAT look, let the guys think that they had the fastest car and then.....usually get away from them at the light first. I may not be faster but I was quicker so that was always pretty impressive. I met many a guy that way.
Those were the good old days. I still have that heart and occassionaly will pull to a light, look over and see that look looking back at me and then for old times sake...stomp on it at the light and make sure that I am the first one away. Usually its some young kid(s) that always beat me but I feel that little smile slowly breaking on my face and my mind goes back to those times when things were easier..when my worries were those worries of a teenage young ladya and not those of an old married lady. Those were fun times.

Around here, a red light means that three more cars will go through before the ones with the green light can go.
That turn signal lever is just a place to put the cruise control stuff.
Stop signs are to let you know you can turn as soon as you blow by them.
The left lane is where you drive if you want to hold up traffic. The right lane is only used for making a turn from the left lane or swinging into when making a left.
I just figgerd' it out that the whole financing of the roads could be done by fining wrong lane usage, failure to signal turns or lane changes, and failure stop before turning on red lights.

What? you're not supposed to street race at our age? Naw, say it isn't so, because I'm the exception. I've always drag-raced and street racing was a very big part of that whole experience. I fielded what they referred to as a "sleeper", it was non-descript and light and very fast. Only ran for money, only time for free was when I went trolling and then I never really raced. One trick I used to do on street, was to find the cop hiding and pick a race at the nearest light w/someone and as yellow came on in opposing light, which signalled ours going green, I'd bring up the r's and pre-load the chassis by letting clutch barely engage, which would jack up the attitude of my car, the other guy would usually rev up and when it turned green, he's be only one racing, I'd let him roar by the cop and he'd get the ticket. Yeah, I know, rotten...but it would keep cop busy enough to not see you run off one. Find myself still compelled to square off at lights w/those of equal thinkn', their not hard to spot. None like it when this ol' man blows there doors off in stock looking ride, heh-heh. Speakn' of doors, Mazda will surprise ya, Saturn's not that quik IMO. Maybe she'll give you 2-3 lengths, heh-heh.
