You can use corel photopaint for slide shows; just export cdr files as jpeg's and open them in photo paint. You can also use "Powerpoint" for slide show presentation, this one as more options than Photopaint.

I copy/paste from Corel 8 to MS Word and Powerpoint all the time. You will get better results by exporting as jpg and then inserting the file into Powerpoint.
You need to convert all text to curves if you use the copy/paste method.

I went to a Rick Altman seminar and it was for how Corel Draw 12 and Powerpoint XP work together. He was doing some amazing effects in Powerpoint with PNG's exported from CorelDraw it was very amazing what Powerpoint can do with it's animation features now. I could explain more to you about this if you need more info, but I think png's are the way to go they give you the transparency option. No more white box around all your graphics. As for cdr to powerpoint I do not think powerpoint supports version 12 cdr's I will have to check so you may have to save your cdr's down to a older version.
