I have to say, that this was a very inspirational, touching, emotional experience... even for a Canadian. Nancy Reagan was and Is a first Lady who showed Class and emotion with dignity. The Soldiers tending The President's Casket were a great example of What America is in my Eyes,... Strong, Solid, and Compassionate. The fly over by the F-18'S? Sent shivers up my spine, especially when the lone jet shot straight up into the air. And finally the sunset, that said it all.

In a interview i was listening to, one of his aids said the president would read letters from people that were down on their luck, or had some misfortune in their life. As president not only would he take time to write back, but would send a personal check to help out a little bit. When the aid said "Mr. president they won't cash it, it has your name on it". The president responded by saying "ohh if they need the money, they will cash it".
He is missed.

Although Ronald Wilson Reagon hadn't even been thought of for office when I served in the military, I still think of him as the only CIC I would've gone into combat for!

Mike, I just heard an interview yesterday with Reagan's son (Mike?)
Anyway, regarding those checks, he heard one lady wouldn't cash it, so he called her and said: "Hello, this is Ronald Reagan, preident of the United States..." When she recovered from the shock, he told her to cash the check, then when his bank gives him the cancelled check, he would send it to her, which he did.

James...regarding that story....I heard this on tv and the version they told had Reagan calling the lady, telling her to hold onto the check with his signature...and then he "stopped payment" on that check at the bank so it couldn't be cashed, then sent her (this is where I get foggy) either another check to cash or cash itself.....this is how I heard it.

We watched some of the funeral ourselves. The Sunset funeral idea was a nice tough. For those of us in the real World, the overtime required by groundskeepers would probally put the cost beyond reach.
You'll notice that a couple posts were deleted. As Steve said in an earlier post, this topic was allowed for the express purpose of allowing those who desired, an opportunity to say good-bye to an Ex-President.
If you are not a fan of this particular President, just hold your tonque and wait. Sooner or later, a guy from your team will pass and we'll make sure he is given the same consideration and respect we all expect at the end of our lives.
