...based purely on the yard sign logo. No political banter allowed . We're talking design here....and we all know that's what really matters anyway, right?
....I'd vote Bush.

Albeit cramped, Bush's logo looks better. Love...Jill

Too much negative space between "John" & "Kerry". It pulls your eye right to that blue hole. "Kerry" should have been all caps, or possible "John" moved over into the space created by the lower cased erry.

As a completely unbiased outsider... Bush's layout is better, in my opinion.

Although there is a lot of bush votes so far.... I must say that even though the bush sign is layed out a little better, when I first saw the two signs side by side, my eye went to the other sign first...
So, I almost have to say Kerry....

Trying to give both signs a fair shake, my vote is still for George Bush.
Funny, by looking at Kerry's sign and his plane you'd think he was already president. Hmmmm

I'll tell you what, from a distance Kerry's sign will read a little easier, and these election signs, that's the way they should be.

that bush logo is the same one from 2000.....now think about how many times you have seen it, since then. i think thats whay most seem to say the bush logo is better. its had time to lock into your eye. the kerry sign is more active and upbeat, the bush one is bland and boring.

I like Suelynn's idea - 'John' and the flag can be way smaller. The Kerry sign, at least on my monitor, is brighter and that may attract quicker attention. I don't like the red against the bright blue - it vibrates - probably looks awful on the printed signs - the darker blue and white outline on the Bush sign is more eye-appealing to me.

The Bush sign could use a tad more negative space. I like the colors better as well as the flag. Looks more like an American flag. The Kerry sign has too much negative space but would read more easily from a distance. I don't care for his "flag" though. Looks like they're trying to change the meaning. One star? One super state? It's missing something. Maybe a hammer and sickle?

But..I like the blue of Kerry's better than the blue of Bush's (at least on my monitor). There could be just a tad more space between Bush & Cheney (squint your eyes and it blends into a white blob) What Suelynn said. As for that 'flag' on Kerry's, when ya squint ya can't figure out what it is and red & blue are too close in contrast value, it's like putting straight black lettering on a red truck.

It's not so much that the Kerry sign is out and out bad as much as no matter what you do or who you do it for that color blue/red combination never looks good together...the brighter blue may grab your eye faster in passing but if you look at it for more than 1 second you wanna squint your eyes and say damn why did they use that. Bush one wins.

I would like to add one of my own,,, and that would be "None of the Above" I would bet that if it were on the ballot that it would win hands down..... How's that for an unbiased conservative?

Zero would be the correct answer to your question, Marty...advertising is the lion's share of what "political fundraising" pays for.

I'm sorry . . . .I have questions . . lol
Why is Kerry's sign larger?? Larger is not always better if that's what was trying to be implied . . .and I hate the way that shade of blue and red "vibrate the eye".
If Bush's sign had the same available space Bush's name could be larger as well, making it even better . . . I vote for it.
I like the formality of the deep, navy blue which commands respect and makes any plain red or cardinal red, pop.
Oh yeh, PS: One or two larger stars tilted at some artsy angle on Bush's flag would be sufficient . . .the quantity of stars there is a lil' too busy
posted June 09, 2004 10:49 PM
I leaned toward Kerry's design, brighter, more readable, not cramped. Then I REALLY got bothered by the hole Suelynn also mentioned, and wanted to get busy and shrink and move the John and the flag over the letters "erry", just like she described. It is flawed the way it is, without a doubt. Too bad we were not there to just simply give it that nudge to make it if not right, then so much better.
Bushes layout is too cramped to suit me, and I do not like the flag on it. Why have countable stars and then it's the wrong number? ----------------------------- Besides, it may not be Cheney, anyway. Guiliani (sp?)is going to be a brand new challenge to squeeze into that space...... Just kidding folks, but it was on the news today as a possibility, Cheney's health and all.....

Politics aside, although cramped, bush's looks better. Kerry's would look better like this, in my opinion.

THANK YOU JOHN DEATON YOU DID it as far as I'm concerned.
(Yesterday Timi was here and typed on my computer and cracked me up when he said: Only on a sign maker's computer do you have to start over and turn off caps lock.)
What you did is what I envisioned, and I think it works and beats the other one by lots of miles. But then, we all know I would.
Would you mind if I passed it on to some people in the Kerry campaign? Again, I have some connections with them, but then, again, we all know I would

Here's something else to pass along to Kerry, Myra...use PRESIDENTIAL COLOURS (and other imagery associated with the presidential seal) if you want people to associate you with the office.

Hey John & Myra, I came in on the back end of a Kerry tv ad while channel surfing. The Kerry bug at the bottom right side of the screen looked remarkably familiar! After checking out his web site, it appears that someone else already made the suggestion. The video is dated June 3 and entitled Country.
Havin' fun,
Checkers
P.S. I must have way too much time on my hands to figure stuff like this out

I'd say it's Bush.....and mostly agree with Kissy's critique.
But I also agree with what Neil says...from a distance the Kerry one might read easier and quicker.
Guess I'm sitting on the fence.
Honestly, I (gulp) like the layout and thought processes behind Nader's sign better than the others. It has the "green" theme tie in, a subtle americana background image and a bold, stand-out type that you certainly wouldn't miss.
....this is my opinion based strictly on the criteria given - - layout minus political bias.
