I've been attempting to set up my Stika on my CTX laptop so I can be portable with my vinyl.. but it' s been going pretty frustrating.

No matter what I do to setup the printer it doesn't print (cut). When I go into Dr STIKA and print it says it prints but no output, and if I go into Cutchoice, each time I attempt to open Cutchoice it asks me to set up the cutter. WHen I get to the window where it says to choose from the following ports, there are no ports to choose from.

I've installed the software several times, and have also set up the printer from the windows(98) printer setup utility.

The Stika is plugged into the printer port with the standard cable. The laptop does have usb ports as well, but I don't want to hook up to them as it will require an adapter of some sort. The Stika works fine on my desktop.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Sounds like you need to turn the printer port on in your BIOs. Reboot the laptop and during the boot sequence right at the beginning hit either the ESC. Button or possibly the F1 Depending on the make of the Computer you should get a Blue screen with the bios and then find the peripherals section and see if the LTP. ports are on if not turn it on then reboot the computer. Win 98 should see the port then and Install the drivers. You might need your Win 98 disk.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem on my tower. I re-formated and now it only sees one pararell port. It doesn't even show the second one in the bios.

windows 98... go to my computer, righ click,my properties, device manager. go down the list till you see ports, see if your LPT-1 is there, i think you can reinstall driver from there. you also need to load the driver for the plotter and figure its port.

Joe, I'm using Win 95. My LPT-2 port disappeared, but it is recognized as LPT-1. My ardware key is occupying LPT-1 (the real 1) and nothing else is recognized behind the key. The Plotter support thinks the problem is in my Rip program(Flexi). Flexi says that the hardware key is good if it opens the program, and it does. So I'm still looking at some other issues. I just received a test file to send without using flexi. I'll run it this afternoon.
On my 98 machine, the plotter don't work thru the key connected to the LPT-1, but that is expected by most users. I'll have to try adding another LPT port there.

The key is starting to look like it's OK. The culprit may be the printer connection on the main board of the printer/plotter. The main board is a big ticket item.

I don't know what's doing it, I had a bdirect file written in both my temp and windows temp directory. I don't know what it is. Then I found that the computer had set up com ports 4 and 5, hell I dont know why. I needed another port and installed it and had to fight with the driver install until I deleted the bdirects and removed the extra comports. Then the computer recognized 3 LPT ports and numbered only the LPT1. I eliminated one by checking the devices and comparing the device manufacturer. Then I went into Flexi and found that I had LPT1 and LPT2. I made some cuts and hopefully it will continue working. I was getting ready to pull the main board from the plotter to send it to San Diego for testing, when I decided to install the 2nd LPT on this machine.
