I've been a member for this board for many years now and I think this is my first question.
I've been doing vinyl for 13 years now. Most of the time it's banners or window designs and sometimes routed wood signs.
Today I was asked for a price to make and install a 4' X 8' wood sign / painted with vinyl lettering and a printed graphic. They want me to dig the holes and mount the 4" x 8" or 4" x 4" posts. Then mount the 4' x 8' finished sign blank.
I've never done this but I'm sure I can. I'd like to give them a resonable price to complete this job, but most of all I'd like to price it in the ball park of what any other shop would charge.
What do I tell them?

I recently did a simple 4"x8" on Alumacore and used one of those PVC frames from R and D in St. Louis.
It was a simple letter job with a few small graphics for a church...
Installed $834.00 here in Indiana.
Now this church was real close to my shop...
Had it been a one side, the price would have been $634.00 installed.
remember, this was simple layout, simple font, simple pre vectorized graphics, one color with a light drop shadow...
I also should add that I am now doing a simple lay-up on a 4 x 8 alumacore 2 signs, 2 sides, identical signs.
These are going to picked up at my shop and installed by customer, I am charging $1080.00 for the pair... The panels cost me $81.00 a piece delivered so basically I am making $459.00 per unit minus my vinyl cost...

We don't do many installs, but you have to consider what may be down under the ground. Our area varies so much between sand to lots of clay and shale. We even get lots of large rocks or boulders (sometimes cement blocks). We charge a minimum of $75 for digging- charge $40 hour for the install). If it is near the road, make sure you know where any underground power, water, phone or cables are. Call the power company, etc to have them mark the street- it is usually free.

More text or artwork? 20% more. Plus artwork charges if required (ie: .eps not supplied).
Installed? Add at least $120 here in Atlanta for vinyl-covered posts (albeit Home Depot kind...vinyl covered 4x4 with simple finials).
AlumaCore ROCKS...

I always use this...Thats kinda like asking a butcher how much for a pound of meat, depends if you want steak or if you would settle for hamburger.

Got a couple jobs on the board just like that. .080 aluminum sheet framed in with pressure treated 2x4's wrapped with white pvc, and 4x4 posts in white pvc. Assembled and ready to install $1350.00. If we install it's $125/hr- 2 hr minimum, plus concrete.
