For those of you who are aware of my computer problems this weekend - seems like AOL has been the problem. As I'm not willing to tolerate a 5 minute start-up time on my computer, looks like I'm shoppping for a new ISP.
Do you like yours and if so why?
I have a cable modem but I got that through AOL. Not sure how that's going to play out. I'll get in touch with Time Warner on Monday and see what the deal is with their Road Runner service.

Kimberly..I have never used AOL, but I have heard nothing but bad reports for years. There must be local ISP's available to you.
We live out in the country and have a DSL internet hookup. Surely you have that option.
Local providers are great, you can call em up and ask questions. Unlike using a multinational server where all you get is recorded messages.

One major bummer is that we are going to be moving - probably by summer's end. I hate to go through the hassle of switching and then have to switch again but doesn't look like there's much choice.
I'm going to look into Road Runner on Monday with the local cable company. I had DSL in LA and I was nowhere near as impressed with that as I have been with cable. I know many computer people who swear by it but that has been my experience.

I had them until I switched to DSL. Really nice people. They also have Long Distance - my rate is 3 cents a minute, anywhere, anytime, with free calling on Holidays. My LD bill is really great!! My husband is hooked up with them in the Bay Area. I looked up your area code and there are dial-up numbers accessible to you. They also have wireless, etc. Give them a call at 888-320-0440. And if you have problmes, there's always a tech available to help you.
Don't forget to tell them Jackie Vaughn sent you (209-296-6868). I get a discount for a month if you sign up with them.
Good luck! Bomba-Dear

Thanks for the input, turns out that AOL isn't the issue after all...almost wish is was because that would have been a fairly minor fix.

by the way... when you do discontinue your service with AOL... remember to cancel the credit card they have access to. They have the worst habit of starting to charge you again. Check my old post for details.
