Hi Hedz. Anyone out there ever had/have a SignMaker 4E? (almost identical to a 4B) Here's my problem, more of a nuisance really. When it plots long runs, especially in the "sequence plot" mode, it tracks back over the vynull it's already cut. Sometimes it does this 4 times or more on a run. Back and forth like the pacing of an expectant father making a rut in the waiting room floor. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change so that it stops doing this? Sometimes I don't mind. But when I load on a new 50 yard roll, I have to babysit it so it doesn't get stuck. Thanks...Jill

IVE HAD THAT HAPPEN WITH MY ROLAND.....if you go to the graphic, or text you will find out that its made like a duplicate of it on top of it. it has more then one line.....some clipart will do this. i work in corel, so i take the object, break apart, and then check line thickness. now it will tell me that i got the thinest line, then i hit the delete and you can see the line get a little thinner... make any sence?

Thanks for answering, Joe. But I didn't explain myself enough. It doesn't re-cut the letters. It just scrolls back to what seems to be its starting point, as if to check itself, then back to the end. The knife is all the way down to the bottom, in the "home" position, when it does this. I'm working out of Composer, Graphics Advantage 6.2...I got as far as intstalling Corel 9 and found it too mystifying. Love...Jill

Jill, Having once an old 4B working CoCut, I had the same thing. It has to do with the home position and how much memory the machine itself has. Every time the internal spooler would load the next plot sequence, the carriage would home to its initial start point - sometimes feet of vinyl would be tracked through. Try increasing the size (length) of your plot, say from 42" (or whatever Advantage gives you as a default) to 600". It should plot from start to finish then. How far is Butler from Downingtown? I should ride up/out/over to see you! Good luck Rick

Hi Jill, I am not in front of work station now, but i'll try to help. If I remember right, on Graphic Advantage there is a pull down for the plot menu. Select sequence plot. That should do it.

Thanks Arklie... (I love your name!) But it is when I use the pull-down menu & select "sequence plot" that it does this most of all. I don't mind it so much, as it is handy for cutting big stripes, but when I have a big new roll loaded on, it tends to get stuck in the bars of the plotter when it is rolling back & forth! Love...Jill

a possible band-aid solution for the new rolls, pull out enough vinyl for the job & have it hanging back off the roll ready for advancing through the plotter. At least this way the roll doesn't have to turn if thats where it sometimes interferes with whatever bars you mentioned.

Jill, I have the same situation, except my clamp comes up too, never got that fixed so I have a lot of fun. Now, I usually have one of the ten year old kids sit and hold it while it scrolls, oh happy gerber 4b, but, I will keep it anyway, maybe have enough money for another plotter, (someday after basketball shoes and car for the youngest)! btw, don't you love the humm of the gerber when it does scroll? it is musical Hang in there, would be interested for the answer to change the situation.

I have not had this problem since I upgraded to 6.2. Are your start and end positions set correctly? Are all elements grouped? Sometimes it will go back and forth to ungrouped and out of sequence parts. If there are graphics and not just fonts, the plot seuence is overidden by the sequence of creation. When there are letters and graphics on the same page, the graphics should be last in screen sequence. This can be corrected by copying that item to the clipboard, delete from the screen, save, paste back then save again. This will realign the screen sequence so that it will not conflict with the plot sequence. When all else fails, realize that the III and IV series plotters are vintage 1981 and many improvements in the way files are organized and spoolers function have been made since then. I have 2 still working and put up with these limitations because I am more into custom work and not volume production. For me though it may be time to upgrade to Envision so that I am not left too far in the dust when the next series of upgrades occurs.
