It's an old acrylic(?) backlit sign. The letters were painted on in reverse, then the back sprayed white. Is it worth it to try and remove all this paint? How do you do it? There are two 3 1/2'X 8' panels. The shipping would be killer on new panels, because I live in a remote town. Any ideas on paint removal our suppliers for new stuff appreciated. Thanks!

Call your local Supplier and tell them what you are doing..try Midwest sign and screen supply in Hayward California 1-800-824-2468 Grip-Flex has a thinner that is made to clean plastic. Then you need Grip Flex White to back spray. Then use Translucent Vynull on the front.
Be carefull as the age of the plex may get very brittle when being stripped. Also, the old paint gets into the cracks of the old lettering knife cuts.

You can clean it but the time it take will not be worth it. And if its an old sign face there will be sun staining ,,
5 to 6 hours to clean it with clean up of the resideu verses buying a new one for $80 bux.

The only reason your customer is asking about re-doing the signface is that they hope it will save them money. When you explain to them that re-doing it will actually cost them more (because it is so labour intensive), they will more than likely drop the subject. Otherwise, thank them for the opportunity to discuss their needs and go find some work that you can actually profit from.
