Good question! If I don't do signs, which is doubtful, maybe I will work as computer graphics freelancer or math teacher (I hate to teach math people who dislike numbers )

And if I was going to do that (shudder again) I would probably stick to restoration work on classic cars.

I can tell you what I WOULD NOT be doing - trying to get committments from Letterheads to do the same thing at the same time, as in this van trip to Laurens. What a PITA - it's like trying to shovel flies across a room. Literally three days til we leave, and I'm still getting this "well, maybe, I don't know, call me before you leave," crap.
Sometimes this is the biggest bunch of babies I've ever seen. People who can't plan anything more than three hours in advance, then complain that nothing seems to work out. Whatever....
Sorry, but this has got me cranky today.

I would have gone through with Cartoon school and would most likely making a 6 figure income.
Or doing corporate animation in a freeking suit in a freeking office, playing freeking back stabbing games and figuring out the daily "buzz" words while attending useless meetings to pump some insecure losers ego up that he's doing a "great" job.
Thank you for reminding me of "why" I chose to stay with signs.
the thought of corporate america makes me want to go build my own coffin and lie down inside it.

I had two choices when I chose signs. Independent business man or "porn star" I think I will stay with this for awhile, then take the other fork in the road that I didn't choose the last time.
I'm just kidding!! I would like to be a full time baseball coach for JV age kids.

Sad to say ... this is about all I've ever done in one form or another... screen printing since I was 17. I know it would be something with my hands (construction maybe) ... and it wouldn't be anything where I had to deal with general public (and be nice)

Teaching K-12 art like I did for 13 years before I did this. I miss the excitement of showing kids neat art stuff and the regular pay check, benefits etc. but I DON'T miss the bitchin' in the teachers' lounge, demon kids, the paper work, grading, extra hours for no extra pay and the administrative junk. I LIKE working here!!

I always thought being a wedding photographer would be cool, you know, bein' around people when they're having the time of their lives. But after I talked to one, I'm not sure. He said he's been at weddings where they've had knock down drag out fights.
I think it would be fun to be a fishing guide or something in tune with nature where you could be around folks that want to relax and enjoy themselves.

Funny you should ask OP, as Jeff and I head into our second week of regular employment with signs fading into the background. Actually, it's just Jeff that has a job right now, with the National Park Service (Chiricahua National Monument...awesome place in south east Arizona). I'm applying for an opening to be the manager for the Park's visitor center/gift shop. I'm keepin my fingers crossed as it is a pretty sweet job opening (can walk to work, have the same days off as Jeff, benefits & not bad pay). I'll probably still keep an eye out for wall mural jobs and holiday window painting, but other than that, I think our sign days are over. Maybe we can do it for fun again once we retire xoxoxoxoxox to you OP...you hang in there

Karyn, I'm impressed with you sounding right brained and left brained too. I can't imagine doing anything except spell the word: "accounting".
And Karen, good luck to you, it will all be as it should be - but please please don't leave us, check in!
I fell into signmaking because I had a background of graphic arts and the signmaker who did the window posters for my X husband's convenience stores never got them out in time, so my X suggested I go help him during the hours my son was in pre-school. I got hooked on the variety of things that were fascinating and challenging and stayed with signs when I had to make a living.
Ultimately, if my life had been easier and I had not needed to support myself and a kid- I would have become a painter of oils, fine art. I had that in mind since age 10. I now turn one out every few years, and it's like starting out all over each time.

I love music. I would love to be a percussionist/drummer in an jazz band.
I have so many talents, I could wear many hats.
Right now, I want to get rich & I am starting another corporation that if it works out as planned, would lead to great wealth, without a lot of outlay.
You know the saying "Think & grow rich"? That is the mode I am in right now.
Think small & you will be small, Think big & you will be big.
I am tired of struggling. Feast or famine.
