pat, the 2 men are looking at the sign. it appears tp be a man's legs with a carved placard between them.look closely off to your right on the screen. fiddles

I wonder if the character sitting on the barrel is doing the sign work? Looks like he is working over his head with something. Yea he's washing the inside of a window. Sure, prepping for a gold job. Yea, ...why not? When did window lettering start anyway?

It's a scene I've seen and got another example of- occasionally painted on brewery waggons, with a cherub sitting on the barrel instead of an old bloke, holding a conch shell up as if to say "cheers" before having a celebratory drink from it. Generally it was used to identify a pub or hotel.
