This links to a very extensive collection of free fonts - Decorative, Blackletter, Victorian, Art Nouveau and such that we remember from the Dover books.
Haven't learned anything yet about Dieter Steffmann. It'll take more than a couple days just to look at the alphabets. Haven't had time to unzip my downloads and check digitizing and formatting. At the very least, this would seem a treasure-trove of decorative initials.

Oh man Bruce, this site is sweeeeeeeet, thanks for sharing this, I do a lot of "themed" old school signs, a lot of these I had to hand digitize, these will go well with my collection, thanks again....
