Ok, How many of you have used the Coburn metalic films as opposed to SignGold? How would you compare them as to durability and cost. While I realize that you generally get what you pay for, sometimes there are situations that arise when a less costly or less durable option might be perfectly acceptable....a temporary display sign going into a mall display for example.
What do you perceive as the strenghts and/or weaknesses of each product. I realize that one is "an imitation" but on quick examination, it appears to be a reasonable facimille, and might suffice in certain situations.
What are your experiences with these specialty films?

No Comparison. Although using Coburn, for p.o.p. type of work is an exception.

Hi Ken. I have used both. I prefer SignGold. Coburn "florentine" has a holographic overcoating that makes it look cheesy. And I found it brittle to weed. Love-JILL

I've only used Coburn once on a boat & I guess it's ok, much thicker than SIgn gold. The client called days later saying the edges were discoloring. I told him to email me a photo & I'd replace it (he's nowhere near me), but I haven't heard from him. Tonia cut out test strips & stuck them all over the place outside & they still look ok.

I just Used my first roll of the Coburn Engine turned Gold. It works alright its fairly stiff and wouldnt want to try to apply over a tighly curved surface. I think its good alternative to Signgold when the clients budget cant Justify SignGold..Heres A truck I recently did with the Coburn. I'm Waiting to see what it looks like in 2 years. Luckly I've know the Guy for years so if it fails there will be no problems and we will redo it. There is a Black outline around the lettering as the truck is actually a dark purple but I didnt finish it till after dark so it doesnt show.

As previously stated NO COMPARISON. The look in person of the two side by side will tell the truth. If They can't afford SignGold then I just sell them regular gold vinyl.

Thanks folks for your replies. I've used the SignGold product, but haven't tried the Coburn film. Got a sample recently, and it looked like it might do for some temporary signs, but from your replies, I'd be really hesitant about trying it on anything of a more permanent nature. There's nothing like getting some feedback from people who've had some heal life experience with a product, as opposed to listening to any sales hype.

We use a lot of Signgold on vehicles and boats, never had any problems.We had lots of problems in the past with Coburn gold metalized product. Absolutely no help from the manufacturer and lots of really upset customers. We redid a lot of work for free. We won`t even consider ever using their stuff again. Ya , I know its new and improved but I can`t chance it.

I was staying out of this one, as my opinion would obviously be presumably biased..but just wanted to comment on how good it is to hear so many posative comments regarding SignGold products.
It's nice to see how many signmakers realize exactly why it is I'm willing to contract my services to the SignGold Corp...they just build superior products.
