Rob,

Here's something I've been playing with for a couple of weeks.
I saw the 2005 Mustang design and thought the retro look of the 1970's fastback was cool, so I started working up this idea based on the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda...

 -

There might be some hope for the future. During the superbowl, Ford ran it's first ads for the new GT, based on the GT-40 race cars they built years ago and Chevrolet's newest addition is based on the old El Camino line of truck/cars.

As for the top ten list...

ANY Shelby Cobra ever made!!!
1969 Pontiac GTO
1970 Dodge Charger (318 engine)
1969 Mercury Cougar (351 Cleveland engine)
1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass ("350 Rocket" engine)
1968 Chevy Chevelle SS (429 engine)
1972 Chevy Monte Carlo
1968 Mercury Montego MX Convertable (my first car)
1961 Pontaic Bonneville Convertable (429 engine...best car my dad ever owned)

and...
1970 Ford Mustang Mach I (351 "Boss" engine, candy apple red/black stripes...very rare)

I miss REAL muscle cars!

You guys have made quite a list! Not much I can add except the '65 Olds 442 and this one. An "original" 1965 Fuel Injected Corvette. I have done a 3 year restoration and it is 99% done. On a sunny day you will see it on the road if you are in the Watkins Glen area!
To see the restoration, go to my web site and click on the Corvette Restoration page.

I agree with Tony, the '65 Olds 442 is very nice!

But, I'm kinda partial to the oft forgotten, but oh so stylish lines of the '62 Buick Skylark.

 -

Looks great, it's small enough to fit next to my wife's car in the driveway, and I can get 20+ MPG. Makes me a happy boy!

1953 VW Beetle with sliding ragtop sunroof.
I'm with OP on the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 (351 Cleveland)
It was my dad's first new car he paid $3500 right off the showroom floor. Wishes everyday he still had one. He's got a '71 now but it just isn't the same.

george old buddy ....the mind is playin tricks on ya....1969 was the 1st TRIUMPH TR-6, not 65.
reason i say this is i owned a 1968 TRIUMPH TR-250. this was 1st yr run of a 6 cyl 2 seat convert. then in 69 the named it the the TR-6. they did make a TRIUMPH GT-6, which was a hard roof fastback 3 door from 66 to 70......

Hi Todd, they produced 10,594, 1963 Split Window Coupes. A one year production. In 1965, they produced only 771 Fuel Injected cars, so this is a very rare car! I have owned since 1968.

Not going to trip the lights fantastic over this, but, I like the 2wd blazers, slammed and fast....

Ray, what the hell? One; Pont. didn't make a 429, neither did chevrolet. You do mean a 454 for the chevy and a 389 or 421 for the Pontiac, don't you?

Best all time favorite of mine is a '32 five-window coupe w/3/8's flattie and a 4-speed, like one I had during hi-school. (yes, I had to make a adapter plate to fit 4-speed, before you "experts" flame me on that one) Oh, and pinstriped, of course....

Rick, you reminded me of a story! Seniors in high school, my best friend's father just purchased a new 1965 ss/327 Impala, automatic on the floor, bucket seats, blue/blue......it was amazing!!! We talked him to letting us take it to school for one day......to impress girls of course. The car had 700 miles on it. Parked at the curb, we were sitting in the car (me in the passenger seat) talking to two girls who were on the side walk. Well,we were ready to leave and my door was open. Larry had to back up as there was a car in front of us. Not paying attention, the weight of us in the car made the passenger door, which was open, dig into the dirt bank. Backed up, still takling to the girls,.......the door broke off and fell right at their feet onto the grass!
Can remember driving home with me looking down right at the road and the door in the trunk! Your body has the ability to block out tramatic experiences or pain, so I don't remember what happened next.............I wasn't good!!!!
But you are right.........what a car!!!!

Joe, the one I'm thinking of is a convertible, from the mid-sixties with the bulge on one side of the hood. I have driven a few, they were four cylinders but pretty quick as I remember.

Clearly, you have all overlooked the Bond Minicar.

Bond Minicar

I had one and loved it, stopping was a bit of an adventure though. Single candle power headlights, kick-start, lift into a tight parking spot one end at a time. A real babe magnet. [Smile]

George that TR with the "bump" on the hood was a TR4, I had a TR6, "72" I loved it!

I my first car a "66" Olds 442 in 1967. I traded that on a 1968 Barracuda "383" fastback in "69", In 1979 I traded that in on a "70" Hemi 'Cuda. (I lost the Hemi in a devoice!)

In 1980 thru 1989 I had a 1969 ½ 240Z, then I got a 260Z and 280 ZX Turbo. I moved to the Keys in 1989 a bought an MGB GT. (That's the hard top with a small back seat.) I ended my Z car thing in 1991 with a 300 ZX Turbo. (I’m looking real hard at the 350Z convertible.) In 1991 I pick up a 1972 Chellvle SS 454. I did a frame off restoration and lost it to in a devoice!

Now, I am looking for about a 1969 "Vette" Convertible.

And by the way, Ray that could have been a 427 in the Chevy, not a 429, (the 429 was an F--D motor) and Poncho motor most likely was a 421.)

Great replies from a bunch of (mostly old) hot rodders!
I like the variety too!

Stephen, You are right, what was I thinking??? Red Jag convertible, V-12, Gotta be in the top ten! My girlfreind at the time in 9th grade, won a silver Jag conv., of course her parents wouldn't let her have it, she got 10,000 at the Jag dealer & bought a AMC Javelin with money to spare!

Jim Bagass, way to cool chopped, shortened, rod. Flathead I presume??

Tony, Nice Vette! A pre'70 Vette is my dream car. Esp. the 63-67 models. 68-70 were cool too. Different but cool.

Coolest cars I've owned

1960 VW bug, in 1977-80
1959 Chevy Panel Truck 396-PG in 1978-80
1966 VW Fiberglass dunebuggy in 1979-82 Wrecked-Hit a car in the rain at 40mph. Ouch. Fiberglass does not crumple, it splinters!
1969 Chevy El Camino 350-350 in 1980-82
1966 VW Microbus in 1982-85
1979 El Camino in 1988-90
1985 S-10 HP355-375HP-700R4 in 1994-until it was stolen & stripped in 2002. A sign shop truck since new, I bought from Signs & Things in Naples w/a blown 4-banger-4 speed. Did 90% of the work myself.
1970 Chevy 402 Rat-Turbo 400 in 1997-2001
1986 Monte Carlo SS in 1996-2002

I sold all of my projects and bought a 2001 Chevy Siverado Supercab Longbed for work but I am ready for my next project.

Opel GT- Chevy 4.3 Liter, hopped up of course, Holley Projection (have) 5-speed manuel, welded headlights & put them in the grill, I saw one, it was killer looking. 200+ HP in a little Vette wannabe! Can you say sssssccccccrrrrrrreeeeeeeeccccccchhhh!

george, the TR-4 was a body style change from the TR-3 which some call a "bug eye". on the TR-4 they flattened the hood, extended over the front and had the headlights moved into the grill. the TR-4A was the BUMP HOOD version of the 4 cyl engine with 2 larger stomberg side-drafts, and the bump in the hood was to accomadate a larger air cleaner. the TR-250, looked almost the same in the front as a TR-4A, with the bump hood, but they stuffed the 2498 c.c. 6 cly from ther GT-6 into the TR-4A body.
the tr-250 was a prototype....and the engine was a powerhouse(for that size car) and when they went to the TR-6 they "detuned" the engine. i saw 150 mph in that car...it had a 160 speedometer.
and ron....i had to laugh you included a FIAT?????? they made the YUGO!!!!! and most any fiat i seen was NOT BEAUTIFUL!!!

I had two favorite cars. A 1967 Plymouth Barracuda and a 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring.
Both had a 318,automatics with leather interiors. The Barracuda was a fastback, not a coupe. Had a big back window. These pics arent mine, just showing you what they looked like.

my secret passion is classic cars. if i was wealthy i would own a few. i worked at a car auction for 3 years. driving cars into lanes into garages to bid on. i drove in the late model lane. vettes, cudas, mustangs, model a fords, panel trucks ,too many to count.my first date was in a 1939 pick-up no heater ,no floor, what was i thinking?duh!that was in 1966. but,my favorite car of all was my dad's 66 cadillac convertible white with a red interior. i used to drag race down rt 8 at 110 miles an hour.till my brother caught me and threatened to squeal.lol. my dad was the district magistrate at the time. if he only knew what i did in that car. sigh...~those were the days my friend~~~ fiddles [Roll Eyes]
