I have a problem printing a file on my pc600. I have a full color EPS image on a disc that I opened in Photoshop7.0.
I need to make a banner that is 35 inches x 60 inches with this image. Since I can only print 22 inches wide I have selected two halves of the image and copy/paste each piece into Corel 10.0. Then, I export the Corel image to the desktop as an EPS file and drag it into Roland ColorChoice... the reason for this is because W-XP does not allow me to print nor cut longer than 32 inches from Corel....
The problem I have is that the image looses so much of the color... the image is so washed out, big-time. The vibrant blue, green, orange and red come out grayed down terribly. Also, the black outlines are lighter than they should be.... almost grey, in fact.
The question that I have is..." How do I get the pc600 to print these colors as brightly as they appear on the monitor??" ... like the original file.
I would appreciate any advice and/or assistance regarding this problem, if any of you could, please. I already burned up two sets of resin cartriges and can not really afford to eat any more....
The settings that I have used to export the file from Corel and to print in ColorChoice are listed below....

I export the image from Corel 10.0 with the following settings:
Image header: Include header box checked Format:TIFF Type: 8 bit color Resolution: 300dpi Transparent background box unchecked
Export text as:
Text box checked Curves Unchecked Include fonts box checked
Color Management: Apply ICC profile box Unchecked
** When checked there are two options: 1)Composite printer profile 2) Separations printer profile ** I do not know what these profiles mean????

Man, that's a lot of information! I'm not familiar with ColorChoice, but I'll try to help ya. Is the image raster or vector? Are you using pms colors or just estimating CMYK equivelents? First, you won't be able to get the print to look like what's on the screen. The RGB color gamut of your monitor is larger than CMYK. The trick here is to get the screen to look like what's going to be the print. That's a topic I know a little about but it's too much info for me to try to type. Second, I think the problem lies within the image profiling. I have had no luck with profiles in Corel. It seems that every time I try to embed a profile, the information is lost when I import the image into another program. With our inkjets we had a lot of luck using the US Web Coated (SWOP)v2 image profile for cmyk images and Adobe RGB (1998) for RGB images. For output, we use the printer profiles supplied by the manufacturer which it looks like you're using. If you have a recent copy of Photoshop you may want to try using it instead. If all else fails, try exporting the document as a PDF. If you export a pdf correctly, it will retain all the color mangement info in the pdf and print, in theroy, a lot better.

The image is a TIFF file, so, I am pressuming that it is a vector image, however I am not sure how my client created it or in what program. I do know that he scanned it and saved it as a TIFF.
I think that I am estimating cmyk equivelents...perhaps... (but, I am not sure really how you do that?)
I know that I can not reproduce the exact color intensities of the monitor screen, but I am just trying to get the red to look like red instead of burgundy, and the orange and green to look somewhat normal other than dark shades.
I have not assigned a color management profile when I export the file from Corel because I am not sure of what type to use/assign...
As far as profiles go... can you tell me the difference between a Composite Printer Profile vs. a Separations Printer Profile? That might help....

Craig...I don't have a PC600 but I am curious about your mentioning that Win XP won't let you cut/print any longer than 32" direct from COrel.
Did your previous operating system allow longer runs?
Where did you get the driver for your machine to run it direct from Corel?
If you downloaded a Win XP driver from www.rolanddga.com it may not be the latest one. The very latest drivers are available at www.rolanddg.com
I know that I had a a rough time with the driver for XP from the American site, it was terrible. Finally found the correct one on the worldwide site.
Just letting you know that there are more than one set of drivers available for XP.
P.S. a TIFF file is raster, not vector.

I found my driver on the worldwide site, too. However, I have not had an operating system prior to Win XP. My friend Jeff uses Windows 2000 with his pc60 and it works fine. I am thinking of buying a computer and loading Win2000 just for that purpose and networking the two of them.
I did just check out the site and they all state that there are length limitations for WinXP

to a very helpful Resident I have resolved the color issues with the pc600! It had to do with the export settings from Corel and the (ColorChoice)RIP software from Roland. With a few adjustments and a whole lot of coaching from Ron Bastian, I have successfully made one SWEET banner!!
