The super bowl football part was not bad...
Im not upset my team lost. it happens. They put on a good game.

However, the half time show was nothing but a decadent display of hip hop artists living in sliding carrers. No wonder the music industry is crying over the huge losses they are suffering.
C'mon who the hell is janet jackson?? And who is justin timberlake? Both are has beens.

The breast flashing by janet jackson was way over the top. What the hell were they thinking? The super bowl has thousands of kids watching. Now its going into a sleazy display of sex. Would'a been a great toples bar show. They think showin' some skin is gooa revive a career? IT has not helped Pamela Anderson...

The girls singing im so hot i gotta take my clothes off and then they stripped down to skimpy skirts, sheesh!

The sexual gyrations of justin (n'sync) and janet jackson did not need to be there.

The implied beastiality with the girl and the chimp. sheesh!

The farting horse, c'mon wheres the creativity? Sure it created some laughs.

what a wasted day. Even more reason not to watch football any more. and to those who say "turn it off" ,, if I wouldve known it was gooan be a sex show i wouldve , but they sprung it on the country, no warning at all...

Curtis, I couldn't agree with you more!!

It was just tacky, and when Justin (just who is this guy?)ripped off janet's bra, I was thinking the same thing.

Isn't the superbowl supposed to be something for the whole family?
What kind of message where they trying to send?

That's the last time I watch a football game!

The only consolation here is that in a few years you'll be able to tune back in to CBS and instead of watching Timberlake on the superbowl you'll get to see him and the jackasses from Discovery channel choppers fighting Tonya Harding & Paula Jones on celebrity boxing...afterwhich he'll give an interview saying how well ya,he's only playing in midwestern casinos at the buffet instead of arenas now but he's comfortable in the direction his career has taken since the 8 people who come to see him each nite now make it so much more personal.

Geez what do you guys ( and girls) expect from modern TV?

Have you even watched the line ups lately? Being a parent I watch tv with the remote in hand, ready to flip the channel at any given moment.

I do have to agree the half time show was way to over the edge for a superbowl. CBS said in a statement last night after thier appology that MTV will never do a half time show for the superbowl again.

What were they thinking in the first place,

Thats like asking Penthouse to run the rosebowl parade.

We had the game on all night (just for the commercials for me) and I just caught a glimps of the half time. I walked away after all the gyrations between Janet and Justin. So I am glad to see that I am not the only one that was disgusted.

Of course CBS didn't mention that they are both owned by Viacom.

Personally, I'm not offended by boobs or gyrations or farts (at a great distance).

What I find offensive is the Entertainment* machine...or perhaps more accurately: society's seemingly insatiable desire to be entertained.

*Sports has simply become a footnote

Yes Karyn,

That horse commercial was clearly the best, but I do disagree with you that people are way too serious, I think they should get more serious and ****ed off too. There is a time and a place for everything, this clearly was neither for that show. But then again thats just the media's way of de-sensitising us to accept all this drivel they shove at us. Do you honestly think your grandparents would accept half the crap we see today? hardly.

Hey a little nipple at the Super Bowl....no biggie right? maybe next year we can see a little butt crack...then in 2006 a nude caberet!

hahahaa I can laugh cuz I see it coming, this is the only thing I can do is turn it off. Ahh the power of the off button.

LOL Don!

I was flippin channels last night during dinner and came across the half-time show. It was Nelly and P Diddly-for-a-career at the time.

These entertainers are SO lousy, they can't even lipsynch to their own songs!!

I watched til Kid Rock came on stage, I guess out of sheer curiosity.. but when he came out wearing a US flag, "singing" to that piece of crap they call a song that's what, 6 years old now? I had to turn it off.

Of course, it's not like any other networks had anything worth watching either. Fox was airing their old stand-by movie, Independence Day. NBC was running a Queer Eye marathon - that show is fine for about a half hour but beyond that it's just 5 sarcasta-bitches cackling at each other discussing things that have no bearing on life. I don't know how anyone could handle a couple hours of that. [Smile]

Then to make things even worse, the news in Phoenix broke in to alert everyone that the prison standoff was over. Of course they spent a half hour repeating the same information over and over and babbling on about nothing and providing no real information whatsoever. Yeah that's great the standoff is over with but dangit, I was watching Dateline!!

Glad I rented a couple movies last night. [Smile]

Big deal, Janet flashed a mamo gland. So now we can all expect paradies of this move for the next 6 months. I'm just wondering who talked Janet into performing this move.

IF someone want to go to mardi gras and flash their boobs, go for it! If people like to hang out at stripper bars, have at it! What I had a problem with last night was doing the show they did on national TV during prime time, on one of the shows that is viewed by the most people in the USA. The average person watching that last night did not expect to have to explain to their 4 year old why Justin was rubbing his crouch into Janet's rear end and why those girls were pulling their clothes off. Children, little CHILDREN are also watching!! Why is it NECESSARY to have something so racey, crude and just generally in bad taste? The other end of this arguement was I went to visit my mother in the nursing home yesterday and some of those older people there were looking forward to watching the game. These are the same people that were shocked by Elvis shaking his pelvis and the Beatle's long hair!! Although that image of their shock of seeing that half time show was probably not as troubling to me, it is just a matter of what you EXPECT the Superbowl entertainment to be.
I think last night was a turning point. I'm sure it was meant to have shock value, obviously, but THAT was not the place for it! It's just like Steve says about swearing on this board. There is a time and place for swearing and at a certain point, people need to show some restraint! I can swear a blue streak with the best of them, but I don't do it when I giving a demonstration for the Junior High School or visiting my elderly relatives. [Eek!] It's just a matter of everything having a right time and place.
....just my humble opinion. [Smile]

There's a principle here....like what was mentioned, a lot of young kids were watching this show. I personally don't want my kids first view of the female anatomy shoved, unapproved into his face by some skanky west coast "ho".

Next thing you know, they'll be showing Janet Jackson doing a horse in a Bud Light commercial.

They ought to have her as a special guest on "Fear Factor"....you know, whoever can stand to stare at her gnarled up, pierced nipple the longest wins the $50,000 prize.

For those of you who didn't see the nipple shot, and figure it was a long camera shot....here it is on a link for you.

Make your decision as to whether you think this was an "accident" as she and Timberlake claim.

I personally think they are spoiled, marginally talented low-lifes that have trouble differentiating the truth from a lie.

Isn't it curious how "CRAP" and "RAP" rhyme?

Edit: Oh, and the prase "Stand up for something, or you'll fall for anything" comes to mind.

A couple of thoughts / opinions...
1. Nellie constantly grabbing his crotch was much more "offensive" to me than Janet's breast. What's up with the crotch grabbing stuff anyway - I guess Michael Jackson started that???
2. We are still so weird / prudish in this country about nudity - like seeing a bare breast will tarnish our kids forever. However we have no problem showing all kinds of gratuitous violence in our entertainment (it's just an opinion so don't flame too hard... [Wink] .
3. Glad someone else notice the incongruity between the "wardrobe accident" comment by Timberlake and the fact that Janet was wearing a pastie...

Overall, really bad halftime entertainment.

Great game though! [Smile]

Well put Jane! [Applause]

I think I know where Curtis is coming from. I am imagining that he and his two young son's were watching together. For those of you who don't know Curtis, he is a serious father. The proof is in the pudding, his boys are fine young fellows.

The super bowl is the most watched event of the year, and of course is a family event in many homes. I cringe at the thought that my grand-daughters, 15 and 12 would perceive this as "normal" behavior.

For adults, well this should not be a shocker. If it is, what world are we in anyway? Or perhaps I am becoming accustomed to shock as I live in the same Parish as Britney Spears! Thank Goodness my girls call her "Slut Puppy."

Edited to keep God out of last sentence, He doesn't approve of name calling!

Maybe brother Michael was in on this! You ever notice how short Michael Jackson's pants are? You know why that is?

They're not his pants!

I guess when you have parents who would allow their kids to spend a night at someone's home and then are surprised that they would crawl in the same bed with a strange adult man, but then figure since it's a famous man it's probably O.K., then we shouldn't be surprised by anything this guy's sister is going to do. There's some weirdness out there. How about all those erectile disfunction commercials? And Richard what's his face parading around in his birthday suit on the new Survivor.

The producers are saying, "Hey, sex sells! PORN, PORN and more PORN!" And if that doesn't get 'em let's watch people eat some worms! It's been a long winter and I feel like bitchin'!

In the book of proverbs, it says: "A child left to himself brings his mother to shame." Children don't just exist for awhile, then become the people our world needs. Their life needs to be stuctured, some things deliberatly brought in, others sternly kept out.
The physical attraction between men and women is so strong, that if children are introduced to this too early, they'll be so distracted and pre-occupied that it will hinder their developement in some other area.

The world is complex. I'm attempting to teach my children to be artisans, craftsmen,(and women), to learn logic, history, science, academics, politics, finances, and spiritual matters. I don't have time for this other nonsense.

Children come from the "factory" knowing how to steal, cheat, lie, and be cruel. My job is to try and teach them the opposite. It makes no sense at all to have a strong influence in the house working against me. Man, that should be so OBVIOUS! The job is really hard enough as it is.

For that reason, we don't watch television in our house. The kids aren't deprived either. Saturday night we watched a video about the bus boycott started by Rosa Parks. The kids soaked it up, seriously, because they're not distracted by a bunch of other trash shows. As soon as the show was over, we had a big discussion about racism, politics and more.

If you say that children should be able to watch this sludge, then let's take this to it's conclusion: where do you draw the line? Surely you draw it SOMEWHERE! Maybe snuff flicks? Kiddie porn? I'm curious.

I spent the day at my favorite watering hole, and when Justin pulled the yank on Janet, the reaction from most of the crowd was not one of disbelief or offence, but of ridiculousness. It was generally taken as a "shock jock" tactic and really demeaned the entire halftime show. Quite possibly the most usless act ever done on television and immediately forgettable.

Today, CBS and Janet Jackson are getting a lot of press, nearly as much as the game itself has. That was the intent and it worked. Hopefully, it will pass as quickly as it happened.

The "farting" ad was by far the laugh getter of the day, but I was equally impressed with the ads for the very cool new Ford GT and Seirra Mist. Also, the Budweiser commercial with the referee getting yelled at the game and at home was hilarious.

...and the game was a real cliffhanger, too. One of the best Super Bowl games ever played.

I watched the game but not the Half Time Show.
This morning on the lesses sensored Canadian news, they mentioned how CBS wanted to apologieze for THE SHOT WE ARE ABOUT TO SHOW YOU.....and then they showed it UNCENSORED, about 10 seconds later, theey showed a slow mo of it and sensored it. Is there a difference between looking at boob in slow mo or real time?????????

I love Canadian TV. Hell, they play the Sopranos and The Ozborns COMPLETELY UNCUT on the local network (they just have to have 2 minutes of warnings after each commercial break. [Wink] [Big Grin]

Thank you kathy.

Thats exactly what happened. Sitting ther with my 15 yr old and watching a ho' and the other pervs.
If any one did that in public here in front of kids,, I would be the first one to arrest them.

Fondling and displaying in public in front of kids just isn't appropriate.

I know there will be public calls for boycotts and whatever. However, I personaly will not support anything that has anything to do with any of them.

Hip Hop slut and perv show is proof there is no talent in it. They have to use skin and perversion to get attention.

I guess my outrage was well placed. I posted late last night long before any news agency reported teh perv fest and today the entire country is ****ed.

i refused to watch the superbowl....because CBS refused to run the MOVE-ON.ORG political commercial, which i felt was blaten political censorship!!!! and then for them to let a display of this type go on as their "coup degras" half time extravaganza......is just showin me the depth of ignorance that the media has come to. which brings me to think that "they" would rather take the flack for this display of stupid....then to air something of truth. so now we have a moral issue on monday rather then a people talkin about the direction of our country. funny how and what gets to be seen.........by the masses.....hummmmmmmm

Don, there's a few terms for the woman who wears pasties under her clothes as a normal everyday item. But, I think I'd be censored. [Wink]

Really doesn't surprise me that Janet would pull a stunt like this. Maybe she'll throw some money to people & it'll be ignored just like her brother's repeated molestations. Honestly, how can anything from this family surprise you anymore? The only surprise to me would be if Michael molestated a little girl instead of just little boys.

Todd, that skanky west coast ho comment hit the nail on the head. Aren't your boys suppost to have their first viewing of the female anatomy from reading the magazines hidden in your underwear drawer like you did? [Wink]

I think the halftime show was the worst one I've seen. It sucked. Bad enough that the rappers were lip syncing, but they even sucked at that too. It seems that the record companies sign anything that walks in the door. Alot of the rap stuff sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom studio with idiots at the controls saying "yea that sounds good".

I can imagine how the lyrics look written on the inside of the cd cover:

"Uuh, Uhh, Uhh, Yea, Yea, Uhh, Uhh
Yea Yea, You know what I'm sayin."

Real talent these days.

As for Janet, can't see what she was doing on there anyway, the songs she "lip synced" to were quite a few years old.

I guess when your career is all but over, I guess that's the way to revive it is to play the stripper role.

Brian and OP - nice shots! I knew MoveOn has been trying for equal time, but I did not watch the show. I was working out in the yard and every once in a while a loud Huzzah! would arise from every other living room around me - I figured "Hmm, Must be a Britney Spears commercial". Little did I realize Janet was jealous of her brother's recent air time - boy, talk about a dead career.

Bob - my favorite all time line from the Leave It To Beaver show was "Ward - I think we'll have to spank the Beaver tonight."

Ray - demean a half-time show? Are you saying jam could get any stickier than it is?

Isn't it sad though. The game itself was great! It was well played and hard fought to the last seconds!
But all that crotch-grabbing, boob-pulling, butt-gyrating were totally out of place and I can't really say I was offended, just annoyed! I found myself asking, "Why are they doing this!?" Obviously, the answer was shock value but even thought people are all talking about it around the water coolers this morning, I don't think it is in a positive sense. I guess I want more shows to have a POSITIVE purpose. I DON'T want to watch people degrade other people, make them eat bugs, fart in their faces, sic their dog on their crouch or just generally hurt other people "for fun"! Other years, when we and our friends have gotten together for the Superbowl, we had fun laughing at the commercials and enjoying Bud frogs, the game & the half-time show. This year was a real disappointment for me. The MTV crowd might have liked it, but I think that even the network bigwigs know they went too far and now the investigations start!
Having said that, I can read over this response and say, "I sound just like my parents!" And although on the surface, that might sound like a bad thing, I'm not sure that a little more of my parents' values couldn't solve alot of our problems in this world! My parents were honest, sincere and believed that you should treat your fellow man with respect and care about him. I would rather be like that, than model my behavior after some of the crap I see on MTV.
....again, just my humble opinion.

On the flip side, Josh and Beyonce did a terrific job, don'cha think? I was moved by both of those performances.

Kept waiting for Janet and Justine to show some of their talent, (they do have some), but seems they're intent was more on exploiting the super bowl airtime to make headlines for themselves. I think some celebs (especially Brittany) become whores for attention. The thought crossed my mind that Justine may have been trying to top "that kiss" for attention.

Now Kid Rock ... what does anyone see in that guy [Roll Eyes] I just don't get it.

I really enjoy well choriographed dancing and singing. I'm not put off by nudity, and sensuous dancing, if it's done well, and in the appropriate setting. That halftime display was inappropriate and disappointing.

Just to let you all no. JT and his band mates made 96 million dollars last year and his ex-pig girlfriend Britney made between 50 and 60 mill. What does that tell our kids.....Schitt sells!!!

Kissy, they were actually National Geographic African tribal women, and they were in the school library. I'm lucky I wasn't permantly affected from those nasty sights...

Faces that looked like sun dried prunes, teeth rotted beyond imagination and pancake flat drooping....well you get the picture. [Wink]

But really, OP..hehehe..MoveOn.org??? You're kidding right? You can't claim political censorship for a group of mean-spirited radicals.

Comparing Bush to Adolph Hitler shows just how morally bankrupt and hateful that group is. I'm not a Clinton fan, but I wouldn't even say that about him.

Robert - you hit the nail on the head. The dumbing down of America is evident in a lot of the crap that infiltrates our kids minds through music and the media. Thanks MTV.

Nettie,

The was some upside in the pregame show. I especially like watching Aerosmith NOT dub their stuff in a live performance. (Willie Nelson was dubbing his songs just prior...and it was very noticable.)
Beyonce's rendition of the Natiional Anthem was terrific and recieved a lot of applause where I was sitting.

Also, check this link out for info on the commercials...and view them if you missed them yesterday!
