We are making a sign and the customer wants the name of the business in chinese underneath also.This may be a dumb question,but don't the chinese read backwards from us?I have the letters translated to the right characters.Just wondering what direction would be correct?Left to right or right to left? Thanks in advance Steve

Hiya Steve,
I just have the client spell(?) the characters in the order they want them to appear on the sign.
This is definitely a scenario where the client must sign off on a proof before production begins.

We are currently doing 2 projects in China, and have the client supply us the Chinese and a basic layout order, that way no mistakes, you would not want them doing your english [Smile]

Yes you are rigth . they read backwords but the write left to the right or up to down.

A simple rule in doing oriental writing is: they read right to left and top to bottom, also when doing the actual symbol, do all vertical charactors first(top to bottom motion) then do the horizontal's from left to right.

Someone just told me "oriental" is wrong, the politically correct word is "Asian"-though I still call myself a beaner......

I was making a joke about it, a friend works at a graphic design firm, they make packaging for store food, it was his job to take "oriental" out of "Oriental Chicken Salad" I think the PC thing is totally out of hand, making fun... thats all [Wink]
