Hey ya'll, Got a customer with a 45' race trailer with the oldest damn vinyl lettering I've ever seen. Lots of old old old vinyl lettering. I know it'll take allot to strip, however, it has to be done. Anybody got an easier (I know there is not a truly easy way) way to get this garbage off the trailer? More than likely we will repaint the entire trailer at a later date, however now we just need to get it off without damaging the surface if possible. So come on fellow letterheads, give me something so I don't have to go postal.

Here's a few more ways you can tackle old vinyl. (insert Wylee coyote and Acme truck here)
1. commercial wall paper steam stripper/hots hot steam pressure washer (caution 4000 psi will take the reflective off a license plate) 2. automotive paint curing lamp (caution required) 3. tiger torch (even more caution) 4. rubber eraser wheels ( pretty well only good for pinstripes) 4. chemical means (even more caution required) 3M decal remover, John Deere decal remover, brake cleaner 5. plastic razor blade/li'l chisler and Roger's RAPID REMOVER (rapidtac - letterhead merchant) 6. razor blade (caution required - best for glass only, unless you have a body shop to fix your mistakes) 7. Cover with a patch of larger vinyl and re-letter or spray over the graphics with a rattle can (o.k. mr. customer just sign on the line - if you choose this one- caution will most likely establish your reputation as "bush league").

There is no easy way to remove old old old vinyl without damaging the paint!

You may not go postal on this job, but it will try your very soul! Remember....you have all those rivets to contend with! You might even foresake this business and become a hermit in a cave in some remote wilderness!
Best advice is to send it out to a detail shop, and have them clean it off!

Thanks for all the tips so far. Everything ya'll have suggested I already knew about, was hoping that someone had a miracle (i need a miracle every day!). I really don't want to do this, but don't really have much choice. Again, thanks for everyone's suggestions, they are greatly appreciated!
