We're back in Chippewa Falls, safe and sound. Thanks to Mike and all of his staff for an entertaining and awesome experience as always! My son Hunter really had a good time for only his second meet. We wish we could have stayed for Saturday too, but we had a basketball tournament in Winter, WI for my daughter. They won the tournament, so we're glad we didn't miss that!!!
Even with seeing all of the talented people's creative sign work, I think the best part is meeting new people. I had the pleasure of meeting several new Bullboard comrades along with others that I haven't seen since the '99 Muster. I was welcomed aboard to help Andy and Laurie plan for the '03 Tomahawk meet, and it wouldn't have been possible without meeting them through Mike. It was a real pleasure and surprise having Brian O'Prey stop in to our shop late in '03 thanks to Mike as well.
Thanks to all of you who encouraged my son as he painted on his "panels"... I think he did nine panels (about 7 on the first day!)and also for allowing him to "pester" as an 8 year old may sometimes do.
One final thanks again to Mike Meyer, the ultimate Letterhead, for re-introducing me to the world of Letterhead meets. (hadn't gone to once since my first in '84) I think I'm up to about 10 meets total now, and over half have been associated directly because of Mike: Red Wing '93 or so Shiveree '94 or so Muster '99 Brush Bash '02 thanks for your help and encouragement for us to host our own meet, and this is where we "officially" met Andy and Laurie Shiveree '03 Tomahawk '03 Winter Muster '04 International Muster '05 !!!
Andy, the whitetail portrait is unbelievable!!! Natalie stared at it for quite a long time admiring it. We will have it framed and hung up ASAP! THANK YOU!!!

It's all over but the cryin. What a rush. So many good people, so little time. So much fun with everyone. Saying good byes to everyone is tough, especially saying goobyes to all the European chaps. Brooke (my daughter who helped pull the meet together also) & I were all choked up seeing them off. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we enjoyed you. The towns people & surrounding community people, have many good memories & compliments of everyone that came. Thanks to all for pitching in to help when we needed it, no questions asked, you just "got er done!". Everyone is so mellow & happy to be there, we never have any problems. That makes it all go smooth. The 2005 planning is underway. See everyone then.

I just got in, but minus luggage...oh well, they say it'll get here. A big thank you to Mike Meyer for being such a generous and warm host. I can't say enough about how great it was to meet some more of the great folks here at the BB. And how good it was to meet some new friends from the north country at this meet. The number of panels being done at the meet was astounding. The work being done there just just fantastic. And thanks to David for the woodgraing workshop that kept going all weekend....that alone was worth the trip up there. Wow ! There was all sorts of new things coming at you everyday ! How about that treasure hunt for the Butler CD set ? Very cool ! And several meet souvenirs, lots of brushes for sale, the wild game feast, great chow at WD's Bar and Grill....phew !
And I wanted to say how great it was to see the town of Mazeppa so involved. There was a steady parade of local people who came by to see the meet in person, and there were whole classes of school kids passing through. Mike deserves a lot of credit for what he is doing for all letterheads when he gets this kind of community involvement. It's got to be a plus when local folks get to see this work being done, and then have the opportunity to purchase one of those panels for their own homes. It's putting our work in places it has never been before, and I think that creates more appreciation and respectability in the public's eye for the things we do. Thanks Mike.

Andy and I have collected one of our children and the other one just called and said he was ready to come home as well. (He went with a friend to the Miracle movie)
On our way home we talked about the favorite things that happened to us at the meet, and there are so many, it would be unfair to metion just one. The Letterhead group is such a helping family and we are greatful to all who have encouraged us to continue to do new and different things! We all have that one 'favorite' thing we like to do, and we all have things we want to improve on. With out this group of people, where would we all be? Pat Welter and Maris Schilling you are the people who have influenced my carving and I would like to thank you for all of your direction! In spending as little as 5 minutes with you, the carving I do has improved 10 fold!
Mikes family is a one of a kind. We are so fortunate to have families who help out with the meets. Lots and Lots of work = Lots and Lots of fun!
Thanks a million! We had a great time. We are already looking at the schedule to figure out which meet to go to next! Hope to see all of the people we met this weekend at several other meets.

We're in Michigan City, back at the same Comfort Inn we stayed at on our way to Mazeppa. After almost 8 hours on the road, we're all ready for a good night's sleep.
Special thanks to Mike, Ayleen and the gang that helped put this meet together. We first experienced the Mazeppa Magic back in 1999. It was wonderful to return to this special town so full of memories for so many of us.
We also want to thank Nancy Dahling, owner of WD's, for opening her home up for the Shortreeds. This lady works so many hours, we never really got to spend as much time with her as we would have liked. We're hoping to carry on our friendship via the Internet.
I've already started processing the photos we took. Over the next few days, a report on this meet will be made. Please e-mail us any photos and/or special stories you would like to see included.
Stay tuned!

It 11:51 pm and I just woke up. A special thanks to those who made sure that we got to the airport bright and early Sun for our flights. I didn't get to bed Sat. until 2:20 am and got up and on the road by 5:30 with Mark and Jillbeans. Caught my flight to Chicago, laid over for 3 hours, and then caught the my flight to Flint, MI. I went right to my Daughter's house to see my grandbabies, and then came home and laid down on the couch.
Thanks go to Mike and all his crew. Anyone that didn't go really missed some good fellowship, seminars, and music on Fri. Thank you David for sharing your knowledge on woodgraining. You were so patient with so many of us. I couldn't get my 18" x 24" panel in my suitcase so I had to carry it everywhere I went around the airport. We had to got on transport buses to go to our small plane and people would ask about it. They were amazed that it just paint and stain. I plan on making some money with this and even more important is having some fun. Its making me really stop and look at wood. As I walked into my house I had to stop and study my mahongany doors.
David, when my dad died 3 years ago I thought that I had told him everything that I wanted. Now I realize that there are still things I wish that we had talked about. Take care of your dad and spend as much time with him as you can. He is one of a kind and a real dear. Give him a hug for me.

Sorry, I posted a new topic before I realized this one was still going (toward a record) Mike's meet was all that was expected and more. Tim, Brooke, and all the family and volunteers took care of every detail. Brooke, by the way, is the future Miss Minnesota. The interaction with the locals made the meet even more interesting with everyone opening their homes to all. Mike's childhood chum, Tim, even took us for a midnight snowmobile ride. I'm hooked.
Also, thanks to the contributors to the auction. It was fun and resulted in not only big bucks for the museum, but some intense bidding wars too. And where else would you be entertained by a bagpiper and gorilla playing the accordion?
After 3 days, I'm not sure if I saw everything on Mike's walls - all eye candy, of course, with new additions evolving everywhere. I saw some old friends, made some new ones, learned some new tricks, tried some new food(elk and buffalo),quaffed some really cold beer, and made some plans to return in 2005. Thanks to all for a great meet.

Back in the shop and trying to put into words what happened this weekend. Alot of people have commented on how great it was, so I don't have alot of new info about that. It was really great meeting BB folks in person. There is nothing like going for a snowmobile ride at 1:30am in subzero temps. Mike, please telling him thank you again for me.

Whew! I think Mazeppa is gunning for the title of "Letterhead Capital of the Planet". Mike Meyer and his family and friends, and the town of Mazeppa sure know how to treat their guests. Project leaders got WONDERFUL heavy flannel shirts that said "Frozen Stiff Staff" with a polar bear design (by David Butler I think). I felt so privileged to be wearing that shirt all weekend.
The quality and variety of projects was terrific. 2 major pictorials (Dave Correll and Andy Goretski); 2 large, 1 medium and 1 small gold leaf on glass - on installed windows like you'd have on the job site, complete with all the distracting elements like doors opening and closing, overspray from painting, cold glass, poor lighting, etc; Wonderful wood graining demos (ongoing); Carving sharpening, and new ways to get results in your carving (Murray, you never did actually SHOW that utility knife technique to me - next time for sure!); TOO MUCH TO LIST IT ALL - WAIT FOR BARB SHORTREEDS PICS.
It was REALLY cool to see all the folks from warmer climates giving our northern winter a try. I think they were pleasantly impressed. Of course the weather cooperated by remaining above zero and snowing gently - not so much to be a nuisance, just beautiful. They liked the automatic beer cooler right outside the door, and the brightness of a sun filled, snow filled morning. Did you order that Mike? 'Cause I have to admit I was a bit nervous the week before when it never made it above zero for 3 days in a row.
One of my favorite things is talking to a person at their FIRST meet. Because it doesn't matter how many letterheads you attend, the FIRST will be BURNED into your memory FOREVER!.

Made it to Mazzepa and back only to get stuck at the bottom of my driveway! This was my first meet. And it surely will not be my last. I was more than a little intimidated and overwhelmed by all the talent in Mike's shop. If they had a Giger counter for talent, it would have exploded. But I got to meet some fabulous people. Found out that Jillibeans is a long lost cousin! (Well, probably anyway) Mike, you and your family are outstanding hosts. Tim was amazing. Big thanks to all the Frozen Stiff Staff. I wish Mike & Jill from Sundance Signs in NH would come to this BB more often so they would know how great it was seeing them again. Joe C. Mike S. Donald...so many great and talented folks. So willing to share. Amazing. Need to work out with Mike how to get my one-of-a-kind tool cabinet back here to Mass. Thanks, Mark. My son will be killing quite a few kittens with that thing ;-) Peace, All.

Hello all, From a first time attendees standpoint, My wife and I have to agree that The Muster was the place to be this past weekend. A huge Chicagoland Thank you to Mike, Ayleen, Tim and all the other individuals whom made the event what it was and believe me... It was an Event. We were amazed at the craftsmanship and the welcoming atmosphere that was present from the moment we walked in on Thurs. Morn to the time we left on Sat. Evening. Everyone was friendly and made you feel at home no matter if it was your first meet, or you were a familiar face from past events. The hospitalty was also extended from Nancy at WD's next door with the outstanding food, service and atmosphere that also contributed to the unforgettable experience. A big Thank you to her for everything as well. While I did not work on a panel(s), My wife did get a chance to make one of her own and even get in some air brush experience. It is to the fabulous group from Superfrog that we thank for providing the necessary supplies etc. to put it all together and offer suggestions and compliments along the way. Thanks again sooo much. The seminars / speakers were outstanding to say the least. From Woodgraining, to Carving, HDU to Resins and Bonding, Mold making, Financial planning, Airbrushing....I don't think there is anyone person who attended that didn't leave without learning at least one new technique, tip or trick that they didn't know before. A big thanks to the supplies and other goodies at the event,Including but surely not limited to:(only because there was so much there I probably can't remember it all)One Shot, Coastal Enterprises, Midwest Sign Supply, etc. I left with a wealth of new ideas and knowledge that I can't wait to try or incorporate into my own work at some point in time. A must is setting the time aside in the future to attend other meets and see some of the friendly faces again and to meet others from the board here. Mazeppa in 2005 is definitely going to be in that schedule. I am sure I will have more to offer others and won't be so reserved in introducing myself (and Kim)to the fellow letterheads by then. As the many projects in progress get finished by the many who were there, I hope that they get posted for all to see as there were a ton of cool things coming together that I'm sure will be awesome when complete. Thanks to all for the warm welcome again and hope to see all of you again.
