For some years I have been producing art for a broadcasting company back when I had no idea what to charge. The wheels come to me blank and assembled. They have to be taken apart . Pegs get unscrewed and the center bushing comes out. I get the radio station logo via e-mail and in vector .eps format. I design a few ideas in illustrator and once the suits decide on a final, I scuff the wheel, paint what has to be painted, cut what has to be cut, reassemble and then pour epoxy resin over the whole thing. This entails mixing 2 parts 1to1, very syrupy stuff, then waving a propane torch over the whole thing to de-gas the bubbles. After 2-3 days of setting up, I deliver it and there has never been a problem.
I charge 500.00 for the art and finished pouring. Now that i have been in game for a few...I think I may be undercharging...
afterthought...when the logo changes the old resin has to be burned off and the whole thing starts over.
any thoughts?

If you are including the design time in the $500 price, then I would definitely believe you are undercharging. Since you are giving them multiple choices, you have to be spending a fair amount of time at the computer before you begin the manufacturing process. From the looks of your sample you are delivering great design. You should be well paid for work of that quality.
I believe I would take a hard look at the time it takes to design, determine a realistic rate for your time, and charge accordingly. Then for the manufacturing I would keep a careful record of time and materials and make sure the fee compensated for it all.
Great work, by the way. They can't pick that up just anywhere.

Saw it in person when Larry Richardt had it at the Mars meet. Easily worth more than $500. He even let me say "HI MOM" on KDKA and signed my apron too. Love...Jill
