its been sort of dead here, so i thought i'd post this and get some feedback. the client delayed our meeting a day, so i even have time to make some changes.
the fonts for "Delirium" and "cocktails" are Algerian and FB Romeo, which match their existing signs. i changed from Algerian plain to Algerian Condensed, because i don't have the plain version. this version has the drop shadow effect as part of the font, which makes it a little more interesting. Romeo is close to what's shown, but I haven't purchased it yet.
the colors are red, silver and black (plus blackboard paint). i haven't decided if i'll use paint or vinyl -- probably vinyl for the black and 1-shot silver for the name and lines. the bar itself is black and grey, with a black awning and black sign with white neon... not a lot of color. its sort of a "rocker" bar and the owner wanted this to be "more attractive" than their existing signs.
price: $424, (includes purchasing the Romeo font). material is 1/2" MDO.

Is that a sidewalk "A" frame sign? If so, I couldn't even dream of getting near $400 for that here!

yes, its an "A" frame sign. (i used to call them that but i got nothing but blank looks, so now i call them sandwich boards, which is wrong, but at least customers know what it is...).
if you don't dream it, you'll never get it.
there's no reason you can't get that ammount for the same kind of sign in Florida. there's a lot of labor in cutting to size, then shaping, rounding the corners, coating out both sides, and installing the hardware. the materials cost me $51 ($18 for half sheet of MDO; $20 of paint, primer and edge filler; $8 of hardware, and $5 of HP vinyl) which marks up to $85. its a lot of labor for a "small" sign.
$339 is my minimum for that kind of sign -- i added $20 for the blackboard finish (three coats!) and another $39 for all the extra copy and the martini glass.
my price is actually a little low compared to the sign pricing guides.

Scooter; it looks nice and clean what more could you do... they are going to get it messy with hand chaulk letters so it's important that your part is really crisp, and you did that really well. I really like the layout Scooter. I also like how you have prepared the presentation, very professional looking.
I wouldn't have picked that letterstyle to go with the word "Delirium" or for a rocker bar, but you didn't pick it either! Could you break the lettering apart and do the drop shadow in a darker shade of red?
I like how the "o" in cocktails is the olive in the glass. I think the customer will be very pleased with this layout.

Brian -- maybe i'll show the fade to the customer as an upsale option. if not, i'll keep it in mind for the next job.
Suelynn -- that's an excellent suggestion for the drop shadow. i'll be painting the silver by hand, from a plotter drawn pattern, so it should be easy for me to do the shadows "the right way".

the blackboard paint i use is made by Kemp Products, and called "blackboard and ping pong table finish". I get it from Product Sign Supplies in San Jose, CA, for about $20. It comes in green or black. it is a solvent-based paint, dries to a flat finish. i rolled on 2 coats - overnight dry for each one.
there is also a consumer product that Crayola markets, and i think that one is waterborne. i haven't used it, and i don't know if it would last as long. since this sign is for exterior use, i'm using the solvent-based Kemp product.

My only suggestion is to round all the corners.It will look much better....longer! Sharp corners get beat up when the sign is dragged in and out of the bar.

Hey Scooter!
I like it just fine. I like the "o" for the olive and the cocktail glass idea, but have you tried it with an olive instead of the O. Just a thought.

since the word "cocktails" is in their special font, and part of their logo, i didn't want to change it any more than i did already (adding the cocktail glass was as far as i was willing to go).
the client liked it and the jobs done, btw. i'll post a finished pic when i get the film developed.
