Right now, we've got nearly 800 fonts we scroll through repeatedly. At times, someone will come in with a font that looks familiar, but has a wierd name.

Is there any database somewhere that can translate the various font names to a common, accepted name ( like Helvetica instead of Swiss, Zurich, or Triumvirate )

Or does anyone use whatever the program is that can identify a scanned font?

Thanks Gang!

Bruce..I haven't come across any database for cross-referencing font names but if there is one I would sure like to see it too. As far as OCR (optical character recognition) programs are concerned, I believe that they will only "recognise" fonts that are already installed on your system. This being the case you probably recognise them yourself anyway. I tried the a couple of them in the past and really didn't have much luck so it was back to leafing through font manuals and browsing through CD's.
