Another apartment sign I recently finished...this is the 4th sign for this company all of which I have posted on Letterville...this company has over 100 scattered throughout the southeast...the 4 I replaced have all been poorly designed and very old...makes me think there is plenty of more work coming my way as they have implied I'm their "man"...rather than paying for shipping and crating they asked what I would deliever for...I added up expenses generously and added $100 a day for my time (I come pretty cheap)...it cost them a few hundred extra but they liked the idea of me overseeing the installation...they supply the muscle...I just hold the level...keep "Sweet Pig" out of the way...and touch up afterwards. This trip was 460 miles from my home so Sweet Pig (my dog) and I packed up and took a 3 day paid vacation...we visited Dauphin Island on the Gulf Coast...and on the way home stopped by Montgomery, Alabama and visited with a really talented sign maker...Mark Fair...if this continues to work out it will be a great way to take paid mini vacations and explore new places throughout the southeastern states...I work out of home...the kids are gone...I follow no schedule...so we're going to take our time...relax...and make the most out of every trip.

Very nice Rusty, I've been doing the same as you. I've been making upscale signs for a management company for the past few years too. It sure does make for a nicer portfolio! It also makes the next sell much easier when you can show nicer, upscale type signs in your portfolio. Question - are you airbrushing around the background before you finish the raised parts? I've done that a lot just to make it look deeper.

John...it's not airbrushing...it's brush blending wet into wet using a spray bottle to keep the paint moist while blending...however it does look alot like air brushing...I wasn't crazy about the dark green post and border on this sign...it was color I was asked to use to match their doors...also I seldom ever use light backgrounds...a reverse color scheme with dark green background was my preference...my mistake was offering them the choice...I usually just present only one color scheme...the one I like best.

I've taken a number of mini-vacations that way. I priced the install at roughly what I felt a local person would do it for and enjoyed a relaxing break in a new area for a few days. I don't think I delivered anything as nice as that, though.
