The gal at the local art store has asked me to make her an a-frame to direct foot traffic from the local farmers market to her shop on a little side street so I did a design similar to Kerry Krugers idea from back in 1995
but as I got to thinkin about it and since I like to do and want to do more 3-D work, I thought I might Sawatzkyize-it (inspiration of course from Dan's recent posting) so I came up with these ideas
idea number 5 is my favorite and number 6 is my 11 year old son's idea. I have not shown these yet .
What do y'all think?

FIRST! I Like the 1st one best. . . nice sketches. . . .what colors?
edited to add: I haven't seen an A-Frame done that way before. . .Great Idea! As Dan says, great inspiration! maybe can add the word "OPEN" in the negative space towards the bottom. What about wind blowin it over though?

well the triangular footprint should keep it from blowing over. of course that will depend on how wide I make the foot piece. and the idea came from the sept/oct 1995 issue of signcraft in an article done by Kerry Kruger out of Florida (and a local art museum that has a similar a-frame)

here's Kerry's sign. it's a yard sale sign for his parents

If they are going to use it regular in the same place I would consider setting some anchors in the sidewalk. . . .only need .25" eye hooks secured in the pavement. . .they only have to protrude .5" or so. . .so folks won't trip over them when sign is not there. . .then a simple matter of a snap-hook on each of the 3 legs of the sign. . . ."snap" into place when needed. . . .easy to remove & secure. .
edited to add: Wow. . . .If I had went to that Yard Sale I would'a been trying to buy the sign !

Well I showed Jeanine the drawings and she liked Ian's sketch, so as I have never done anything like this I mocked it up in foam to get a feel for size and thoughts on putting together the frame.
any hints, tips, or ideas appreciated
Jon
P.S. a picture of her logo

heres some progress photos. I've never done this type of thing before so I'm moving slowly and had to backup and start over once.
Thanks again Dan for all the inspiration over the years.

I've been needing to replace our shop sign for some time. Having been under water twice and tagged by an 8 year old and his buddies has taken its toll. I may have to borrow Kerry Kruger and your idea.

Thanks, This project is getting my brain moving. I'm planning my address sign next, not sure if I should do the tiki or my shark logo
If I do the shark it'll be kinda like the one Dan did as a plaque that he did awhile back
Mine will have (more) color and no rivets

I'm really glad to see how past projects have triggered some real imaginative designs. Jon's comments how 'it got his brain moving' makes me smile. One thing leads to another and as you do them for key customers and yourself word will spread. Others will come... and pretty soon you are in the business of being truly creative.
It's WAY more fun than actually working!
Having fun in Yarrow...
