Just finishing this project up on the rear bunk of a highway tractor down in Chatham Ontario. Close up photo was taken prior to the first round of clear coat being applied.

Later on next week I will be heading back to the customers shop to sand the clear coat out to a smooth finish, eliminating any unevenness in the artwork from the stencil work used to mask the outside edge and lettering. The final round of clear will then be applied and polished as necessary.

Quite a change from doing the smaller motorcycle work, as Waylon's hat measures over 5 feet across.

That's wonderful.
I'm curious about the scroll work around the frame, which I like alot for it's uniqueness. It almost looks like it is an effect from a 3D program. Can you tell me how you came up with it?

Thanks very much for the wonderful comments... very appreciated!

Hey Pam, Fergus is only an hour away and your always welcome.

I'm afraid I can't take full credit for the scroll design as that is part of Waylon Jenning's image. The customer originally sent me a CD box set cover that had that type of design on it and wanted it incorporated into the mural.

It represents a tooled leather pattern that was actually on Waylon's guitar, I think to prevent his belt buckle from scratching the back side of the guitar. I had to break the design apart and change it around somewhat so as to make it fit into my layout for the mural. The lettering for Waylon also came from the CD cover and I recreated it on the computer for the stencil cutting.

The 3D scroll is still one area that I may spend a little more time on before the final round of clear, as I would like to sharpen it up more to try and improve on the 3D effect. Sometimes it's better to leave those final touches until after the first round of clear coat, just in case it's still not what I want to see and can be easily washed off without affecting what has already been done.

thanks again

Bevin

Outstanding work Bevin... Love to do a seminar with you some day. What really impresses me is the technique you use for Hair and Fur, let alone everything else.

I love how this is not just a painting but a real portrait. You really captured the twinkle in his eye. Being able to do that is waht really sets you apart, Bevin.

When this page opened, I could only see the top part of the picture, basically just the hat down to the top of Waylon's hair. With the white outline on it, the first thing that came to mind is, "Why is someone bragging about a digital print pic?"

I then scrolled down and saw what a beautiful job you did, and mentally pulled my foot out of my mouth!

That is some fantastic work there.

Absolutley a perfect painting execution!! If I were to point out any flaws, I't looks as though there's rivits and some sort of seam going across his head!

OUTSTANDING job!! World class!!

My god man, you are unreal!
That's one of the nicest jobs I have ever seen. You surely are a world class airbrush artist, or artist period. Great work Bevin.

I'm here on a rainy dreary Saturday afternoon finding myself re examining this piece and find it hard to believe it is actually paint, at the same time wondering why you are even posting this type of work on here.. with your talent, the Artwork you produce should be hanging with the likes of Batemen, Danby, Loates? and others in a Museum or Art Gallery.

Thanks again for the inspiring comments everyone.

Hey Neil...your further comments and interest are always appreciated. Hopefully our paths can cross one of these times as I look forward to meeting you. Perhaps you can someday line up a joint project for us that would cover the costs, etc. for me to fly out to your neck of the woods. Haven't seen NF yet.

Not confirmed yet, but I will most likely be working on something at the Consac Show in Toronto in Sept.

Bevin..totally awesome. I really like hearing the little tips you enclose in your post. Not being an airbrush artist myself, I just have to drop my jaw, when I see that kind of quality work. [Thanks]
