Okay, it’s not new. It’s the same truck we’ve had for about 2 ½ years now, but it looks like a completely different ride. It’s not quite done yet. Dad is going to pinstripe up the white area on the hood. He pulled it out of the shop just long enough for me to take a few photos before he pulls it back in to do his thing. I’ll post some photos of the hood when the striping is done.
Here is a shot of what it used to look like. Before, we did a partial wrap with no pinstriping. The graphics were holding up good, but we though it was time for something different. Plus we’ve updated our logo a bit.

Joe - much nicer. Now we're talkin'!! The direction of the blast flies right into the logo....nice job.
Edit: Ok...now that's the easy side...what happens to the "D" on the passenger side when it's to the rear of the vehicle....gotta see how you treated it?!

Yeah! That’s what I’m talking about. Actually, I think we are going to a wrap class this spring or summer, but the best way to learn is to screw up a bunch of times right? Actually the material is pretty forgiving and we only messed up and had to replace one sheet, the first sheet we tried to put on.

Killer work as usual, Joe. You really force me to rethink how I want to do our shop truck and van.
Question: How do you handle the tailgate these days? Both Chevy and Ford have started putting their big ugly logos in the middle to the tailgate and I can't stand it. I'm driving a Ford F150 and the Ford oval is recessed a bit into the tailgate but its too tall to cover over it.

Yeah, not sure on the Ford. Our truck is kind of the econo-line version of a Silverado. Bare bones you know. No carpeting, rubber/plastic floors, munual windows…. But it’s a shop truck, so… who cares you know. The tailgate had a Chevy logo, but it was all vinyl, so it was no big deal taking it off. I think they figured these work trucks are going to have different lettering back there anyway.
I guess you would have to work around it like the handles. Maybe someone on here has though of a way around it. I do know that we wanted to make the back as legible as possible, so I’m glad there wasn’t a permanent Chevrolet logo and we could make our logo pretty large. I think it probably gets the most eye traffic so we opted not to include any background imagery.

Hey Glenn - I'm pretty certain those big ol' raised Chevy bowties are stuck on with adhesive foam....heat em up and pop em off.
That's the case on Impalas, anyway....on cop cars,....just have to pop them off.

Todd, they used to be stuck on with the foam, but the new ones ('07-'08) aren't. I tried taking the bowtie off the tailgate of my Avalanche and found out the hard way. They have holes and are epoxied on. Not what I wanted to run into on a brand new truck I only had home for 3 hours.
By the way, nice job on the wrap, Joe. I agree with the rims idea too, that would really set it off.

Yeah, I did that to the Ford. Turns out there are two holes punched into the sheetmetal to receive alignment studs that are on the back of the Ford oval. Its the same with the F150 badge. Those dirty &*%#$!!

You could try to wrap or paint the badge with your logo. I thought about wrapping the bowtie on the front of our truck.

Argghhh....that's too bad about the Chevy Bowtie on the new trucks....
That's one of the things I hate about the new Chevy's is that they stick this big 'ol bowtie centered directly beneath the tailgate handle....
Poor design layout for this....stacked in the center - it looks awful....they should have put it in the lower left corner of the tailgate in my opinion.
But, what else would you expect from some GM dweeb in polyester stretch pants??? "Hey, let's stick it here!!"
Joe - I really like this layout! It's fun to see how your skills have developed in a very short time. You're a talented young man and you've got a bright, fun future ahead of you without a doubt. Joe, You should put together a training class for those using Corel as their main program. There are tons for Illustrator and Photoshop but not any that I am aware of for Corel Suite that pertain to signmaking.

Wow, thanks a lot guys… this means a lot to me. I was really excited about this job. It’s not every day you get to do projects like this. Our hope is that this generates more work like this in our surrounding area. We have plans on wrapping, or at least a partial wrap for Ben’s Lancer.
I’ve also entertained the idea of trading some design services for new rims with the wheel, tinting, and audio guys down the street. I don’t know does that sound like a good idea?
Anyway, we have a (semi)truck show coming up this spring and we have permission to pull our truck into the expo building. We do a lot of semi work so we want to recruit some more customers. My plan is to build kind of like an easel off of either side of the truck bed where we will display some pin striping panels and possibly a few prints of logos we have done for existing truck companies. So the plan was to get the wrap finished by then.
Oh and Neil, I didn’t want you to think that I forgot your question… We used Oracal 3951G and 290G and printed them on our VersaCamm.

You have a 30" Roland, right? Did you do vertical or horizontal panels? Did you have rectangles cut around the prints or cut them out by hand? I don't think you can print edge to edge, can you?
