ok crew - it's been a long long time since I've been very active, but I was asked by an old client to come up with a logo for their new commercial development project.

The only direction I was given was "we like the ESPN Sportscenter logo". Elk Grove is a more rural part of town - you'll find some farms but they are starting to play in the same league as some of the other big cities. This will be one of the largest developments to hit the area, ever.

constructive and other critiques welcome... while this logo is already set, I'd like to know what your thoughts are - especially the great Dan Antonelli! [Smile]

oh and by the way - I know this doesn't look anything like the espn sportscenter logo... just because they like that logo doesn't mean I have to. [Smile]

Dave, the icons are cool and I like the Elk Grove... but the lines through SportsCenter are hurting my eyes and making it hard for me to read... I particularly have trouble though the 'SCE' region.

I agree with Jon....

I think you have enough going on with the icons that you should just go to a solid black "Sportscenter"....that should be sufficient. It will make for a lot stronger logo.

totally agree guys - as we've all experienced in the past... that was the part of their input that I had to give in on. I orginally showed a version with no lines... they said "too plain" needs to look "fast" like nascar and espn... ok uh... what the heck are you talking about?

I think the descending G is hurting the SCE combo as well. I wonder if a good compromise would have been just one horizontal line through the center (as opposed to three)

I think that one line (a single, thicker one) would have been a good compromise.....

But you're right - we've all been at that place where the customer demands a look that we would not have chosen.

Just a side, nit-picky addition: I might have gone with a different script font than the one you chose...it seem's a little "bouncy" to me ....

If you made the "SPORTSCENTER" two words you'd have room for your decender.
Since when is it one word. [I Don t Know]
I know why ... I goggled it a few minutes ago, after reading this post.
Marketing genius, I guess [Roll Eyes]

Just a thought why not have the text solid but drag the lines away from the left of the letters in black leaving a white keyline to the right..like a cartoon speed effect

does that make sense

Dang Todd... back off!!!... hahaha [Smile]
Totally kidding.

I think it works but Sports Center should be larger & have a space between the words or stack... Sports
Center.
My 2 cents.

Say.... Terry Bull...... Huh? [Smile]

likes the design, layout, even the lines
only thing I would say is make it caps and small caps title this would bring out the title better

font crazy

"needs to look "fast" like nascar and espn"

Might be some thing like this he has in mind....

This font for sportscenter (serpentine bold) is probably the commonly seen one on race cars over the last few years. Just one strikeout line and it leans a little toward the ESPN font without being a total ripoff.

I really like the icons and thought making them a little bigger didn't detract from or overpower the text.
Stretched the gradient line longer. It's a nice little touch, but felt a bit lost in the overall layout.

My 2 bits...
