It's been about a year since I last picked up the airbrush, I was asked to do this portrait for a woman whose dog passed away. I am pretty happy with the result

Looks like my old Panda... makes me a little sad.
Beautiful though - I wish I had that kind of talent!

really nice Neil.
What paints did you use? How long did it take you?

All I've got to say is...WOW!

Thats great work Neil! I also would like to know what paint you used. Thanks for sharing.

Gees Neil, what would it look like if you hadn't set the airbrush down for two years! That looks life-like to me.
Great job for a part-timer.

Thanks for the comments. Paints I used are called Airbrush Ink, a water based product made in Aust. I think the painting took 5-6 hours, I just did a little each day when I had time.

I find it completely mind boggeling how great that fur looks. I have never been able to get my head around how to make my airbrush do that. How fine of an airbrush?

Yeah, its the fur that has me posting too, not to say that the composition as a whole isn't teriffic, because it is...but wow, that fur!
You masterfully captured one ofthe key elements to the personality and appearance of an animal like that!
WAY to GO!
And I am with mark how bout a how to? Pleeeze???

Neil, Fantastic! What Brand of AirBrush do you use?
Posted by whitey2 (Member # 1265) on :
Thanks again for the positive comments. I use an Iwata eclipse. Yes Ian hair is done one at a time, but once you get going it doesn't take long. I learnt the technique for the hair from a mate who teaches airbrushing ( http://airbrushventuri.com.au/ ) you use a combination of opaque and transparent inks to create the depth.

Neil, do you ever paint with automotive paint, if you do, do you find that it flows as well as ink?

That is absolutely stunning hair. PLEASE do a sort of show and tell on here for us!!! In the next 2 weeks or so I'll be starting on a wolf painting and I would really love to learn that technique. I took the one day course from Jurek and we did the tiger and it was awesome but it was a quickie compared to your dog's fur. I'm using the Iwatta Custom Micron now and I love it. I bought my son one of the Millenium's but I haven't used it yet. I took two three day classes from Dru Blair www.drublair.com and learned a tremendous amount. I can't go to Austrailia for the Airbrush Venturi classes but I sure wish I could.
