This is a 30 year anniversary gift for the local Vet from his staff. They wanted shades of grey to match the house and brought a photo of a trailing rosebush they liked. They will present it to them tommorrow at a public party. I hope they like it.
It is 48"X72" mdo, hand painted with one shot. I added a touch of peach and turned the pink flowers to peach to match the stonework on the front of the house. I procrastinating painting this one, and turns out it was easy and fun!

Sue Lynn, first off that's one classy sign and you executed it nicely, but man you asked for critisism and you know it took me a long time to dream one up but if I had to make one change, I would have softened the word Griffen, although the sign is simply oustanding the Griffen text is a bit loud for me.
With all the nice soft tones in the sign such as the peach I would have used maybe a very light shade of peach or like a very light fawn color in Griffen just to soften it up a bit.
I do beleive it would have the same contrast but fit better within the whole color scheme.

Nice work Suelynn. If I were forced to change anything, I'd have to agree with Bob. With all the other nice tones in the sign, I would have slightly tinted the white for the name.

Bob and Kissy, I never even thought about changing that white, but you do have a point. They wanted the sign in black, white and shades of grey and I talked them into adding the peach for a little punch. Maybe even a color fade from light peach at the bottom to white at the top would have been nice too. Another thing I learned was that my gut instinct that the rose vine wasn't a great subject for a pictorial on a sign was bang on. If you step far away from the sign (which is where it will be viewed, driving by the farm) It is a bit hard to make out what the picture is. I should have talked them into one fence post with a couple of huge roses on it. This one was alot easier to paint though, so I was fine with giving them what they wanted. I had also given them a choice with a script font for the Griffin part, but this one was much easier to read.
Thanks Stevo, but I cheated for the script and used a mask! (hey, but it's still paint!)ha ha

I really like it. I'm always impressed with people who do pictorial work with 1-shot. I can't stand the stuff. I always get is all over me, the floor and anything else in the way. Then I never have a good looking finish. I guess I'm just an acrylic kinda gal!!

Also a smart move to incorporate some warmer colors, black, white and shades of grey?? yuk! man that makes me want to put a coat on its so cold.
I always suggest warmer colors becasue they are warm & inviting and if you can't well try to squeeze em in anyway you can.

Apple, Orange....Apple, Orange.....I agree w/others on nice sign, especially a handpainted one(I am ignoring mask, as I agree w/you on that, it's a tool),but I don't agree w/others on color changes. Let me elaborate; IF, there had to be any change in color, I wouldn't soften the main line "GRIFFIN", it's perfect to be seen/read from a distance. I'd add same color(looks white) to outside border, emcapsultating entire sign and design, which also would balance out the white of the main copy line. Like you already stated, everything else is mute subject, it can't be distinguished from a distance, which is good, leaves some for closer observations.
I like it as it is, that said, there is no design out there that can't be changed to fit someone else's taste. That doesn't mean that it has to be changed, some things are better left alone, when you've reached a level of performance that you are comfortable with, that is as good a time as any to declare it done and go to something else.
Not saying that others ideas are wrong or off based, I'd be tempted to use peach too, but I'd make alot of other changes, so that it all would looked planned. I really like how the art work and the bottom shape work together.
I agree with some that the "Griffin" does seem to have a bit of extra "weight" in the design. IMHO, a thin line of the peach color on the outer edge of the black, similar to the one along the border, would be a simple solution and a nice touch to add warmth.
