This is one part of cartooning I have a problem with. Some people are just really hard to do for me. I really have to work hard to get the resemblance to come through. Ive been working on one of myself for a tshirt design, and my website. Heres what I came up with. Im really pleased with it.

John as I read your post I could relate to the difficulty in charactures, but then I saw your drawing, and now I cant relate anymore cuz you nailed it pretty darn good.
I still struggle with those.

I think it's great. Definately make cool T-shirts. I may have to buy one of those!
When I grow up I'm gonna pay you to do something like that for me. I'm dying down here without exposure!
Like Mark said, "You Rock Bubba".

Thanks yall. In doing a caricature, you usually exaggerate certain areas of the face that allow you to do that without being too bold with it. Im easy to do due to the fact that I wear glasses, have a goatee, and wear a ball cap almost all the time. SOme people have no really distinguishing attributes to play with. WOmen are usually the hardest to do, mainly cause if you offend them, they'll thump you right hard. Ive never really pursued this side of cartooning that much, but I think Ill spend alot more time with it in the future.

Excellent drawing John!!!
I was curious in this day and age of computer technology as to your techniques in creating a drawing like that. Have you done it all by hand or did you scan your drawing and colour it on the computer. I've been wanting to expand some of my abilities on the computer and am really impressed with your artwork.

I like that! My panel has a caricature too, as it is most befitting to the recipient, at least that is what I could think of to do!
What a neat piece of work, Mr. D!

I drew the caricature in pencil, inked it in with a flair felt tip pen, then scanned it into photoshop as a tif image. Took it into streamline and vectored it, then opened it up in illustrator to add some color. After that, I took it into photoshop again as an eps to add some highlights and airbrushing using masks. I plan to do a handpainted version using gouache colors for my shop. Thanks!

Your "toon" work is great, John! I agree...you need to make some shirts with that on them. I would buy one.

I've had the pleasure of doing a fair amount of charactatures over the years... and always had a tough time of them to satisfy me...
This one of you looks great!
It will look great as a shirt and make people think of you with a smile on their face.
