This is another dimensional sign we just put up this afternoon. It is two layers of 18# Precision Board sandwiched over 3/4" MDO. The letters were cut with a scroll saw from 30# Precision Board, topped with PB Resin and gold leafed. The ribbon is an additional overlay of 18# HDU that was cut with a flat bed router (a friend's). The background is black smalts.
The post is 6" square steel tubing with the treatments cut from redwood and HDU. These match some of the architectural features on the house.
The black star and scroll work was done by a metal working friend. The star in the center is cast aluminum covered with gold leaf. The sign rests on square tubing, with the top piece of tubing running into the sign. It is set in the ground 48" in concrete.
Cost: Design $600 and the sign was $3,500 installed. Note: it was not nearly enough for the time and detail that went into the process. But it will be great advertising.

Thanks for all the very nice words. It is a pleasure to be able to work with clients that let you do some different things.
Yesterday, the owner called and now wants to move the sign! Even though it is where she spotted the location, she wants it pointing in a different direction. Oh well, she's got the checkbook.
She has spent millions restoring old historic homes in this area and wants everything to be perfect. Her only problem is that "perfect" changes from day to day.

Nice purple background. Is it one of the Rhino Paints from Gary Anderson? If so which one?
I use all Porter and Rhino paint and it kind of looks like the purple that he has, but brighter. If you've found another please let me know what brand it is.

Raymond that sign really has a lot going for it. The dimensional star in the middle and the bracket on the bottom with the same star is, well, WOW! You need to enter this one in the next Signs of the Times competition.

REally great looking sign!!!! That's the kind of signs I'd love to be able to do...maybe in time. (It'll take a LOOOOOOOOOONNG time to turn something as nice as that, but it's a great piece to set a standard by)

What an awesome piece of work! Your creativity speaks volumes for our industry. Where did you come up with the aluminum star in the center? I know you aren't surprised about having to move the sign, it wouldn't be a sign job without that finishing touch from the customer that turns it yet again into a major production. But you're right, as long as she's paying for it, who cares?

Sherye - the aluminum star in the middle came from a supply house called "Outwater" - they have a wide range of building and decorating items.

Very nice and classy looking sign. Did you paint the returns on the letters before or after you applied the PB Resin and what kind of paint did you use for your resin color?

TJ - The letters were painted with Krylon satin black before applying the resin. We used a very small amount of One Shot Lettering enamel (tan) to give the top of the letter some color and then gold leaf was laid over the PB Resin.
