This is two of the three proposed designs for this company. I'm not even going to share the third (which of course means the customer WILL pick it.) I know the whole "elipse" thing is overdone, but these guys build fiberglass stuff, specializing in whirlpool tubs, so the water ripple reference is more what I'm going for.
Critiques welcome, of course.

Hey Joe....nice work. I like #2. It is very strong. Which is what I think of when I say the word Quantum. Bold and Strong. Nice job!

Hey Joe! I'm for #2 as well. Just looks important!!

Wow! Very nice! I also very much like #2.

I like both of them very much ... one over the other depends (for me) on who they're targeting.
I like #2 for it's boldness but seems industrial/steril to me ... like if they were putting whirlpools in hospitals and such. For some reason (I don't know why) it makes me think of water purification (maybe reminds me of something I've seen before, I can't grasp it).
#1 seems more fun to me ... and you can bet I'd have a lot of fun with a whirlpool at my house. (don't think I'd be caring about the logo on it at that point though )
Doesn't matter what I think anyway because you already know they will pick #3
Nice work on both

# 2 gets my vote, jumps at you, and is easily readable. Nice Job.

Number 1 looks more pronounceable. The letterstyle looks like its being said, "flowing" might be a good description. It's tempting to do something with the "Q". Like maybe a little larger, or else change it somehow...maybe use the "Q" form that looks like a "2"?? I don't know...its pretty nice though just like it is; I was just thinking of a little tweaking...

Both designs have their merits.
I'm getting the same kind of feel as Mark M. on #2. On the order of a commercial bathroom product impression for me. The Q sort of looks toilet-ish. (for lack of a better description) hahahaaa
I like the vibes on #1 far better ... more relaxed, while still professional. I'm not completely sold on the letterstyle, may be too loose ... though it works. I like the water ripple concept.

See there...that's the kind of stuff I needed to hear. I did want to offer them the two styles for the reasons Mark pointed out. One is more commercial and the other more casual. I hate leaving a letterstyle just like it types in (#1) but in this case, it thought it looked so nice, I just couldn't see a way to improve it's flow. #2 is definately stronger, but now I'm a bit worried about the interpretation of the graphic.
I will play around with these a bit and see what happens.
thanks

Great work Joe!
I like both designs again along the lines of some of the above posts.

Both are great, but I lean towards #1, I'm with Jeff the Q is begging to be tweaked, maybe modify the tail so the elipse flows off it, course you'll have to shift the elipse over some and maybe even lay it over a little. That script, like Janette pointed out, is a litttle loose, I use it and my own brush version A LOT, an outline incorporated with the shadow will tighten it up or at least fomalize it some.

both are great designs joe! nice work.

Jeff,
I think both designs are great as well.
I tend to lean towards the 1st myself. The angle of the ripples leaves me to believe I might be standing near the tub. I think if you leaned the elipse(s) back a bit it might lend itself more to the effect of actually being in the tub. <grin>
(I can't wait to see the 3rd version!)

Hello,
I came across this board today and just registered myself. I had a few comments to add regarding the logos you posted... [disclaimer: the following notes are from the viewpoint of a perfectionist...proceed with caution]
LOGO 1: The script font used for "Quantum" is inconsistent between letters in terms of stroke thickness and character height (notice how the 'n' looks thicker than the 'a' for example, and the humps in the letters 'n' and 'm' don't reach the same height as the line created by the tops of the other letters). Also, the kerning of both fonts is a bit askew. Since the letters are overlapping in the word "Quantum," you might as well push the 'n' and 'a' closer together. Maybe separate the "q" and "u"...kerning in the word "products" needs overall adjustment. The word "products" also doesn't seem to really fit with the rest of the logo - could be the font or could be the placement/size of the text. The colors are good and the basic design works fine.
LOGO 2: The graphic is nice, though I'm not sure it represents the image that this particular client would be seeking. At a glance, it makes me think of water purification products. The font for "uantum" is well-matched to the graphic, though it looks a little squeezed to me. Perhaps you could use a little more spacing between letters. The font for "products" doesn't work for me, though. Similar situation as the same text in the first logo. Colors are good except that the blue used on the word "products" doesn't seem to fit into the spectrum of the gradient used in the graphic - needs a little more gray, i think.

Joe you mentioned whirlpool tubs..and your logos both have the whirlpool effect. I do not see toilets....or such horrible kerning. It is very interesting to see what other 'see' in logos. You have chosen appropriate colors...and I like your style very much. Keep up the great work!

In case you were curious... the customer picked #1.
