I'm wondering if this will work. I'm wanting to make this sign from plexi or lexan at 3/4" to 1" thick. The sign is to be 3' tall and 6' wide with about a foot extra on the bottom to slide into the stucco base to secure it. The lettering will be vinyl, not sure of the colors yet but maybe black and etched glass for the flourishes. The base would be colored to match the building. I'm wanting to mount a light against the bottom edge of the plexi so the light makes the plexi glow at night. Will this work? Should the plexi be painted on the back side? Will the plexi or lexan be strong enough in the wind. I want to cut it so that a foot or so slides into the stucco base and could be bolted inside the base.

This is a quick sample of the sign and may not be the final design.

Thanks

Tony,

It sound like a good idea, but my concern would be the strength. 1" is pretty thick, but I don't know if it would be enough.

Another thought would be the shape. I like the look of the pattern, but I would be worried about light diffusing out to the ends of the shape. You may want to think about leaving it square to make light diffusion consistant all the way across.

I would love to see finished pictures of the project.

I had seen some small examples of the sign type you are talking about. I saw a neon green panel, maybe 12" x 18", with the lettering routed out maybe 1/8". It had a neon strip along the bottom, and the routed edges glowed really bright and made it easy to read. Really cool effect..
