As usual, my husband will be working on New Year's so I will be home with my 6 year old daughter, my dog and my cat.
My best friend lives next door to us so I think he'll probably come over, we'll make dinner and watch Boston College play in the San Francisco Bowl game.
Around 9pm, I watch the east coast celebrations so I probably won't even stay up until midnight!
New Year's Eve is usually when I take the decorations off the Christmas tree. We have a huge tree so it takes most of the evening. Gives me something to do.
Another friend of mine suggested going out to dinner early in the evening but I'm thinking it would be best to stay off the roads altogther. The drivers around here are bad enough without adding even more alcohol to the mix.
What will you be doing tomorrow night?

Stay in or staying out? Of bed? Last year I was in bed sick if I remember right. So I do not know where I will be yet. But probably out of bed. Maybe watching Lord of the Rings-Return of the King again if everyone else stays away from the theaters Last week was the first bomb threat I ever was in at a theater! Kicked us all out and sent us home! After watching the movie for the third time I was still finding things I had missed before.

Hahaha Terry, welcome to the Parent's of Young Kids New Years Eve Club! LOL!
We always stay home, but out of total choice. Load the wood stove to toasty warm, play games, maybe get chinese in (not sure yet) and once Cody's in bed, Mike and I may watch a movie together.
In our younger crazier years, we'd always hit some kind of party. Cut those out even before Cody came along. Just got old I guess.
Of course, I always come online to Letterville chat for my once a year New Year's drink and I attempt on the hour all evening to wish the New Years in with those applicable. Now with my laptop, that should be a snap! I can now spend time with hubby AND all of you.
On New Year's Day, I'm debating inviting my whole family (of only 40ish people) in for mom's festive New Year's Cookies. German recipe, sort of like deep fried dumplings, raisins, oh so yummy! Just have a big ol' open house and everyone's welcome anytime. Mom starts deepfrying around 4pm and having a potluck to go along with it.
Hay! Today it's snowing! Finally!!!!!!!!!! If this keeps up, we'll have a very quiet New Year's Day too... eeee... (whole family lives 45 min away in Chilliwack and they have to drive a well known trecherous strip of hwy to get here in winter known as the Sumas Flats)
Thought of dismanteling the Christmas tree like you Kimberly, but that feels abit too much like work. I'll probably leave ours up until the 5th or so when I'm due back to work. May as well enjoy all the hard work of putting it up a week longer.

Oh boy, I can't hardly wait till tomorrow night. Any of you who have met my business partner Dick Clark probably don't know he is one HELL of a cook. I am taking a gal friend to his place for a real Cape Cod FEAST! Three couples, 10 lbs of huge jumbo shrimp, 2 gallons of Dick's killer Clam chowder loaded with Wellfleet quahogs, and a total of EIGHT 3-lb steamed lobsters fresh out of the Atlantic. Forget about alcohol - it's going to be a food orgy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiya Kimberly... I am one of those dissolusioned souls who hates New Years Eve. Every year, I feel like the past 12 months slip through my fingers. Every year, I long to be all dressed up at a big fancy party in the arms of that special man for a midnight kiss. I watch the ball drop in Times Square and then switch to the Pittsburgh station to see down town, after trying to wake Justis up from being conked out on the couch. Then I usually go outside. I ring my bell. I think of when I was a child and my grandfather used to put on his coat and go ring the dinner bell out back at midnight, one clang for every year. The last time he rang it it chimed 75 times. I stand alone in the cold. I can hear folks setting off firecrackers in the trailer park over the hill, and even a gunshot from the rednecks up on the other hill. I hear the brittle clang of the clapper on cold hard iron and I say a little prayer for my dad and pap in heaven. Every year at midnight I promise myself that "this year" will be different. Then I go back into my cluttered little house and live out the same year again. It is pretty pathetic! I am going to my brother's house this year. I want to hold my new little great-niece Sara. I am sick of the same tired & sad ritual. Maybe this year WILL be different....there is always hope. But I doubt it! After all....I am kinda hopeless! LOVE-Jill

You never know Jill. I finally found that special someone and he'll be at that fancy party WITHOUT ME!!! We have never spent New Years together - he always has to work. Before I had Samantha, I used to offer to work then too so that someone who wanted off didn't have to work.
If I'm lucky, he'll call me sometime around midnight and tell me that he loves me and that he misses me. :-)

I was going to invite myself to go to Jimmy's first but since he is in a different time zone, I decided to come to Joes for lobster, then Jimmy's for catfish and hushpuppies, and Santo's for gumbo. Is that ok guys, that I invite myself?
The last 2 years we have gone to our church where we have a Euchre tournament and goodies. We always have a blast. I would love to go again but we have been invited to my husband's old bosses house and I feel thats were we should be. We went for the first time a few months ago and had a pleasant time considering. Anyone that believes in prayer, I could use it. You see the old boss, Charlie and his wife had two kids that grew up to be teenagers. The daughter died of heart problems and some time later the son commited suicide from the stress of the loss of his sister. The wife has become an acoholic and is herself thinking suicide because she thinks that her life is over without any kids. I was able to talk with her when we visited a few months ago and now I would really like to be with her. Please pray.

Well we're heading up to find some snow! Since it's been a little chilly here for the past few days and supposed to stay that way we figured we'd head up to the pass and either do some X-country skiing or snow shoeing. I'm to cheap but the wife says she'll pay for the room so I guess we'll have to watch out for drunken snowmobilers Most of the time we just stay home. It's not a big deal to me, just another day.

Usually we do Dinner and a movie, then home before midnight. This year we have Patti's dad with us and we are taking him back to Pittsburgh on new years day, so tomorrow night it be just Dinner the to bed early, so we can leave at 6am. You all have a safe evening what ever you may do. Hi SJ..

The best New Year's Eve's were spent down the Tangipahoa River at Hog Heaven, our camp. You had to go 10 miles by boat to get to it. Don't get the idea that Kathy likes to rough it. It was nicer than my home.
The River Rats were all like family sorta like Letterheads. We would all gather at our camp and have a party, kids included or course. We would by the Welch's grape juice bottled like wine for the kids and serve it to them in wine glasses at midnight. Each child had to share what they were most grateful to God for that year.
At 10:15 we would put the New Year cake in the oven. It was a vanilla wafer cake that took 1 hr. 45 min. to bake.
At the strike of 12:00 the fireworks began. By that time the adults we beginning to feel pretty good. We would shoot everything we bought, them flares from our boats.
By then the children were all asleep and the adults would "chill."
Sure miss those days.
Darn Jill, now I feel like cheese and whine! The cheese I think, should be Blue Cheese
Now in my mellow years I enjoy house parties or just staying home and wondering where the year and all those others went. I don't like competing with all the other drunks on the road!

Okay Jill, and Mikey (Not as good as Out Back Steak house but it works)
I have made two of this cheesecake in the last week and they are still begging for more so I get to make two tomorrow. It is good if you want to cut back on sugar (carbs).
1 8 oz package of Cream cheese 1 cup of sour cream 1/3 cup sugar (or Splenda like I use) 2 tsp. of vanilla 1 small container (12 oz?) Cool whip 1 9 oz graham cracker crust (I use two small ones so it is not as fluffy in the pan)
Mix the cream cheese with the vanilla and Splenda until soft. If it is too hard to stir it will be lumpy. Let it sit a little bit to soften. Then add the sour cream. Stir in the cool whip (not frozen). Do not stir too much after adding the Cool whip. Place in to the graham cracker crust. I divide mine into two pans. Refrigerate at least 3 hours. Tastes even better the next day.

I'm going out to a New Age New Years Eve Party to spend the "slide into the New Year" as we Germans call it, with a bunch of old friends. Food/Games/Poker/sharing of meaningful insights (if you have one, I don't)/and releasing into a fire pit a little written list of things we want to leave behind (I'll think about that tomorrow)

Myra, I did not say healthy, just less sugar if you use the splenda. Better then the real stuff if you are avoiding sugar for what ever reason.

Jill - come escape to Volcano. A big bonfire, families, fun, all while the snow is falling around us (dress warm). Put on by a local volunteer firefighter at his home - all kids welcome (young & old). Designated drivers for those that imbibe, and firefighters to put out any fires. And some of them young volunteer firemen are really, really cute!! But ya know, I kinda like those other events with the fish food, gourmet food, movie rentals & popcorn. All of them sound great. Our first New Year's Eve out in years.
Dinner with my Brother and best friend. The grandparents are holding the fort down and we get to hang with the unmarried couples. LOL I have this feeling I may end up being the designated driver though. No sense in feeling sick the first day of the year.
There is a pretty cool restaurant that we found. Very rustic but not too hick. Awesome food, a fire pit, even get to pass a Mail Pouch Barn on the way.
The dinning area is built similar to a green house. Outside they spread corn and the deer come from the woods and eat within a butter patty's throw of you.
Hope we're not eating the real dumb ones.
The one odd thing about the place is that they have pictures of woman in the men's room and men in the woman's room. The old black and white portraits where you feel like they are always looking at you. It's kind of weird but good for a laugh.

We're playing babysitter again this year! Miss Lydia will once again be joining her Grandma & Grampa to help ring in the New Year. Still time to pack up Justis and join us Jill.

We'll be spending most of new year's eve on the plane to florida.
we'll be up most of tonight (we leave for the airport at 3am tomoorow) and I haven't started packing quite yet it's now 11:00 pm and I'm emptying the cards of my digital camera and burning disks of all the pics I've taken over the last months.
Tomorrow night I have a feeling we will be a little tired by the time midnight rolls around... at least we gain 3 hours with the time difference. We should get in to florida by 10:00 pm and then off to Janis' brother's place to start the holidays!

Every year we go to watch night services at church which lets out about 10 pm, then it's off to the boonies to build a fire, pick sum guitars an' blow $40 or $50 of fire works.
This year will be a tad different 'cuz I gotta finish up prep for an "estate" sale which begins fri. morn an' goes all weekend...bet'cha ain't nuno'ya gonna have as much fun as me, lol

Got a great party to go to which is an annual one with good folks at a great house on the river. We have First Night in our town so there is fireworks. I plan to eat too much, drink too much and carry on like a fool -- God love it! Tomorrow I'll be sorry and I know that in advance, but OH WELL, life's worth sufferin' for from time to time.

And once again....guess who is the designated driver!! God love him! Luckily, he doesn't have a "good time" too often. We do have a good time at this party. The people hosting it are millionaires who travel most of the year. But new year's eve, they throw a big catered bash with LOTS of interesting people from ALL over. We didn't go last year. (We took my Mom to the nursing home that day.) So I am really looking forward to it tonight. We NEED a little friviolity right now!

Looks like I'm going to the big New Years Eve Meltdown all by my lonesome yet again! What's with some of us Lettervillians that can't seem to hook up with a sweetheart! Sometimes I can't believe that my professional life is going gangbusters and try as I might my personal life just ain't happening!
Edit: Before y'all think I'm a total loser!!!!... I have lots of buddies and buddyettes to hang with tonight but missing a really special soulmate to smooch with at midnight and wake up with in the morning!!!!!

Looks like we're painting the town tonight, then do our christmas tomorrow with family, plans in action too. Eggnog and a basic early night. I'm glad I'm not in the Big Apple tonight even though the satellite dishes are set up to show each side of the apple as it drops on many sides of the buildings. Still, there are sharp shooters on each building and this makes me appreciate being in a smaller town at home!
