Christmas is to be at our house this year. About 16 or so folks here for a couple-three days of fun and games, good eating and good times.
Before Christmas officially began I had a couple of chores to do.
The biggest task was to make the bathroom functional in the shop as we only have one bathroom in the old house.
I had been working on it all week, doing the plaster work, ceramic tile, and putting in the counter and sink. The olny thing left was to hook up the plumbing, not that big a deal.
I was out in the shop early... no problem to finish before our company started to arrive at noon...
I was sidetracked by a long list of other last minute chores and had to go to town fr the necessary pieces of plumbing I needed. But by eleven I was ready to get to work on the task I had set out to do, the plumbing.
I went to shut off the water at the front building, and then went to make sure I had turned the right valve off... wouldn't you know it. The ferrier who had trimmed our daughter's horse's hooves last night had backed over a lamppost and the water stanchion breaking both off in the process. It was time for some serious shovel and repair work.
Needless to say the ground was a little wet in the vacinity. Just finding the pipe took two hours, the repair another hour or so. Plus the time it took for another trip to town for parts.
In the excitement I had forgotten to pick up the fresh turkey from the meatmart in the morning trip to town. But they phoned us telling us they were closing at 3:00 pm. So it was back in the truck for another mad dash to town. I arrived in time and rescued our turkey (and my own life in the process!)
By 4:00 I was ready to start the plumbing. I thought it went well... I only had three water leaks... unless you count the serious leak around the toilet. A second wax ring solved that problem. By suppertime I was finished and enjoyed a relaxed evening meal with our guests.
I went back outside to check things after supper... and you guessed it found one more leak. That one was fixed without difficulty. While out there I decided to put the bathroom door back on, something I had forgotten in the excitement.
Now the chores are done, the folks are playing board games and Christmas is here at last.

Just when we all thought you lived a charmed life you throw a wrench in things with the truth...I must say tho you have the proper attitude for making things come to fruition, without frustration.

Living ten miles outa town, when doing plumbing chores, I always get several extra of every possible fitting and connections, knowing I can return the surplus(but seldom do). Otherwise, it is common to have need of one item and the store is closed and we're doing water from the rain barrels. Dan, may you and your family enjoy many clean flushes this year and the fart fan run silently. Blessings to you.
