My helper, who shall remain anon., used egg white b/4 leafing a sign & left t on for 2 days. (2 shot Black enamel finish) The egg white has left a residue. We've tried Bon-ami (hasen't scratched yet) but it doesn't touch it. HELP - customer coming today to pick it up!

Try vinegar but be very careful! Stay off the gold...could damage varnish finish...may want to mix with water and keep warm water handy to dilute and remove!

Hi Ernie. I've never had the experience of diluted egg white leaving a residue, but I have noticed that when applied, it really seals the surface well. I'm betting that the egg white was applied to the background before the paint was fully "cured", and it then prevented the solvents from evaporating. Now that the egg white has been removed, the background paint is now trying to finish "curing". This would give the appearance of a "residue", but really isn't. If this is the problem, placing the panel so that air is circulating...ie: fan blowing directly onto it...might go a long way to getting rid of any "residue".
