Last week I watched the new movie "Cat in the Hat' Some of my crew wanted to see it and so I treated them.

The movie was silly, but there was lots there to inspire me to be sure! I especially loved the car, the "Super Luxurious Omnidirectional Whatchamajigger" or S.L.O.W

I even have a toy model of it in my collection already - just for inspiration!

Today I bought a new book about the making of the movie. As I read it on the ferry ride home from Parksville I was reminded of the downtown in the show. The town set was painted so that the characters would 'read' well against the backgrounds. But what really struck me was the signs... they were too cool! Rather than words they had large three dimensional icons and their message read plainer than any 'normal' sign ever could...

The optomitrist sign was just a pair of specs, the restaurant had a oversize knife and fork, the cofee shop a huge mug, and the golf store a golf ball on a tee.

These signs worked for me!!! I WANTED to shop there!

Dan, when I saw the Cat's vehicle, I immediately thought it had Sawatsky flavour. And those buildings with the signs did make me smile. Great set!

I agree, the movie was silly. Bad even. But Cody liked it and I went for the popcorn anyway. [Smile]

Sorry to be a downer, but I took my grandsons and thought it sucked. It was, however imaginative and effects were good.

OT here, but did anyone else see Elf? It was funny. I liked what he did to the Santa room after decorating. [Smile]
