I have illustrator 10 now and when using the envelope feature to distort text, it only does it as a rastered image, not vector. Is there a way to change it to vector after applying the distortion?

Go to the top menu click on "object" then hit "expand appearance" and there you go. BTW it will no longer be text, so if you want to replicate that arc, you ight want to copy and paste it, that way you can change the copy with the same arc specs.

John, also when using the envelope feature, experiment with the number of Rows and columns you can enter when the envelope dialogue box first pops up.

I rarely use the default numbers...usually 1 or 2 entered in each column...but your needs may vary. Also generally use the "make with mesh" option when you first click on "envelope distort" function....and you can click the "preview" box to see how what you're doing is affecting your object...I'm sure you already know that. Have fun.

Hi John, Illistrator CS (11) is worth a look at upgrading! Been working with it for two weeks now and the changes made to the text engine and the Print modual alone make it worth the upgrade!Robin
