Here is a logo i have designed for a local contractor. It will be on cards, signs shirts, and his truck. I welcome critiques and color scheme suggestions. His truck is white.
Thanks, Barry

Hi Barry,
I messed around with the idea a bit and came up with this...
Just thought I'd play a bit with the layout, trying to lose the "dead spot" in the L. Couple of extra colors, too.
Just playin'... Rapid

Ray's on to something. It always helps me to look at things like this much smaller, almost thumbnail view, to compare balance. The dead space of the "L" doesn't bother me if the roof is centered over the two letters as a whole. But that black chimney was really calling my eye up there. Colors good. Nice job.

Tazmus... I liked the black chimney, where it was. I am not "hip" enuff to copy & paste the artwork...but...I would leave the roof red and change the construction panel to a reflex blue. I would also put something on the "porch" of the L, perhaps a flower pot or a cat or something...very rudimentary o'course. Love- JILL

I changed the ampersand because there are too many rythms going on with the angles of the roof line and the script at the bottom.
I toned down the colors as well so the builder would appear to be more established and less flashy.
Must be hundreds of ways of designing this and they can all work. I just like how some designs feel as opposed to the absolutes of design rules.

Hey gang...liked some of the suggestions...others, well....to each his own!
(Bob, I remember how much you dislike red and black)
Here is a color scheme I personally like a little better....
how's that?

Joe,
Working things down in scale has been a long time habit for me. I often leave my shop door open and walk out about 60 feet away, leaving the lights off. Give's me a better idea of how things will look to someone driving by it later. (that, and watching race cars from the stands for a few years....heheheheh)
I like how you moved the chimney. It gives the whole design a left to right direction.
Barry,
A little detail to the gable end of the roof, downsized the chimney and got it back down to two colors.
I have way too much time on my hands.... Rapid

try looking at it in one color, cause somewhere along the way this logo is going to be produced in monotone (fax, maybe nametags, can coolers, other possible promotional items) and you won't be able to rely on colors to define your key focus.
I think there needs to be more space above and below "D&L", and possibly getting rid of the roof and chimney altogether. Not only does it open up the design (it all looks "trapped" to me) but how many architects, roofers, builders, real estate agents, etc are all using the same concept? Around here the real estate/construction industry is on fire so I see a lot of the same kind of design and you can't tell one company logo apart from another.

Fair enough Mike, but can't you gray scale that thing? I think so...
I see your point, but around here, there really isn't a lot of this kind of thing, and what there is, I have done it. In fairness, without the roof, what's the point? I might as well just scrap it and start from scratch.
