John Lennig and I got together for a short time this last weekend at his place. I was in town for the day, and it was a great way to spend what seemed to be too short of a visit.
John showed me around his humble home-based shop while we talked about interesting sign projects including smalts, antiquing, glass gilding and glue chipping. John showed me the samples of the aged hand lettering he was going to be applying on some storefront windows and how he was achieving the certain effect that he wanted. His test pieces looked great, and I'm sure his customer is extremely happy with his windows.
It was quite a treat to see a shop that had no computer, no plotter, no vinyl hanging all over the place. A couple small easels with some sign projects in various stages of completion, pounced patterns and hand layouts. Quite a polar opposite to my shop, and a truly neat experience!
Next time, I hope we can spend some more time and get some brushes wet. I thank you for the visit and hope we can do it again sometime!
