Has anyone used Matthews Paint for signs, my question is the color Maroon, I know even in 1-shot, that color doesn't last very long. I have two 10'x 44' billboards to paint, I was thinking of maybe high performance vinyl for a longer life span. Sign is facing west. Letters are around 30" in height. To me painting would be easier and more profit, but I don't want this sign to fade in a year or two if it'll last that long with regular sign paint. Any suggestions??

I usually mix my own maroon/burgundy colors with bright red and purple One Shot paints. They seem to hold up better in the long run. You could also use the UV Clear coat to help it last longer.

Matthews Paint is awesome!
That said, it's more of a commercial sign paint for finishing boxes, channel letters, etc. Goes head to head with the GRIP family from Akzo-Nobel. Typically sprayed thru HVLP guns. There is an additive available that allows you to brush on or roll-out Matthews Paint.

I agree with Ted. I've used Matthews on several signs, particularly Burgundy and Purple and they've held up great.

Go with Matthews. Probably the best sign paint around, also a fan of Akzo Nobel too.

Thanks fellows for the info, also Steve good to hear from a Matthews rep. but since he has read this, I'm curious is there different types of Matthews paint? Because I heard I would have had to buy a hardener and a catalyst, or something to the effect. I never have used Matthews, my first thought was to mask and roll the paint on, not spray it. But clear coating it does make sense.

I considered adopting Matthews as our stock background color palette a couple years ago. I got halted by the cost of it only being available in gallons. With the additional proprietary reducer and brushing additive, it was too much of a switch to make. <Tim Lloyd, is Matthews going to package in quarts?>
As an alternative, I've been adding automotive urethane catalyst to 1-Shot and BM/Impervo. A purple sign we did 4 years ago is chalking slightly on one side now, and will be refinished this winter, but I thought that was pretty good performance from non-exotic materials.
