I have started using 3M's 7725 series vinyl because I like the way it holds small cutting detail, weeds, and I love the clear synthetic liner for multi-color layering. My problem? I have a hard time getting it to lift off of the synthetic liner with my application tape. I have tried 3M's SCPS-2 Prespace tape, R Tape's Conform Series, as well as a clear application tape. Most of the graphics and lettering I cut are small in nature and some are even customer applied. It seems to be even more difficult the longer the application tape is on the vinyl. I also cut SparCal vinyl with the paper liner and have no problems. I would appreciate any response or recomendations any of you may have on this problem. Thank you!!

I've never had that problem with it, are you using high tack transfer paper?

Mark is right- are you using a high-tack paper, or just a low or medium tack? For really small letters, the higher tack papers are really needed.
Some App. tape companies mark the type inside the roll cardboard centre with a series of red 'M''s or 'H''s for medium or high tack, and nothing on the low tack paper.

Besides using an aggresive transfer tape for intricate graphics... If you're not already doing so, try flipping the piece over and removing the liner away from the tape and vinyl, not the other way around.

Also, check to see that your plotter's knife isn't scoring the clear backer too much. That can make a big difference in how the vinyl releases. I usually used different downforce settings for vinyl on a paper liner than for the same type of vinyl on the clear synthetic liner.

Hi Mark,

Hey, once you get the hang of it, you'll really like the stuff [Smile] I use R-Tape medium tack and haven't had any problems with it getting the vinyl to release, but then again, I also (as Bob says)cut the vinyl at a lower downforce rate. I also on most ocassions remove the plastic liner instead of lifting the application tape (usually when I flip it up for the dry application, hing method). One thing to definitely keep in mind is that while its GREAT for being able to align layers of graphics, you need to stick with all 7725 series to do it. If you use a 7725 and then try to layerit with another color that has a paper backing, the text probably won't match up quite right due to the difference in feed rates thru the plotter. I started using it years ago and have never looked back..it's wonderful stuff!! [Smile]
Good luck & enjoy!
