My town did.. there was a nice memorial down by the lake, complete with speeches and prayers, 21 gun salute, and flyovers from air force bases around the area complete with sonic booms - lots of 'em!.. freaked out the dog! Posted by Michael Boone (Member # 308) on :

I flew my flag today, didnt see to many other doing it. seems a shame how this whole 'war' has clouded the reason we started it. i for one will never forget 9-11-01, God bless Karin Martin, fight attendant AA flight 11, and the 2k+ other victims, rest in peace.

Not the town as a whole but a lot of individuals did... The one that stuck out the most was the Dad standing in the middle of the road (on the divider) with his daughter on his shoulders... she was waving a huge flag...

I worked till after 4am last night, flipped on the tube & saw the first 100 names read at ground zero by children of the deceased. They went on reading for another four hours. I went to sleep...
but today I thought of the memories several times.

ain't that the truth... I tried to give away 2 flag stickers today... both people turned down the offer. 'scuze my french but FUK EM! Its a hard won freedom to walk the street with that kinda BS attitude. Posted by Ray Rheaume (Member # 3794) on :
Several of the VFW members had a ceremony yesterday at the town field. The fire department flew their flag at half staff from 8:56 until noon. It was a somber day for many here.
Growing up near Concord, Massachusetts, I always saw re-enactments of the battle on Concord Bridge where "The shot heard round the world" was fired and this country began it's fight for independence and freedom. It was a battlefield of soldiers of honor. No one has ever known who fired that shot.
On Septmber 11th, 2001, we all witnessed the first shot of a battle, one that claimed the life of innocents from around the world. This time, we know who fired that shot. It was not a battlefield, and they had no honor. They are murderers.
I, for one, will never forget that.

I don't know of anything yesterday, but tonight the Ponchatoula High Greenwave football game featured a pregame show dedicated to 911.
After the band, Wavettes, and flag core performed a patriotic show a sophomore Wavette lead us in prayer. (Wavettes are the dance team) This little girl is a real prayer warior! So refreshing at times when you hear so much bad about the youth of today. We have some great kids in this country.

Your statement confuses me Michael. I don't see any evidence of people forgetting 9-11.

David-
All I mean is that when 9/11 happened, there was not a vehicle without an American flag, nor a home. (You could not even begin to purchase one!)That has dropped off drastically. Like Doug said, ya can't even give 'em away! The street I live on has about a 25% flag showing, but 2 years ago, it was 95%. 1st anniversary, maybe 50/50. I am a firefighter full-time, that's my "real" job, I get to see the stuff that I would not wish upon my worst enemy. I dread the thought as to what my fellow firefighter went thru. It gives me the willies. I hope and pray that I never have answer a call like that.
It just see that now that 9/11 is in the past, and for the most part, it appears that we are back to business like nothing happened. Perhaps my observations are wrong, that would be a good thing!
Sorry I offended you, that was not my intention, but like I said in my post, how quickly we forget....

No offense taken Michael. I was disagreeing with your assessment. I don't think a lot of people express their sentiments with outwardly displayed symbols. Myself, even with religion I can't make myself wear or carry any religious icons etc. Seems to be a poor substitute for the real thing.
