He's enjoyed building houses all of his life. And enjoyed the framing the most.
Today he was in his glory as we set most of the massive trusses in place on the new shop/studio. Even though he said that he wasn't going to climb, and even though I appointed him chief supervisor for the day and expressly forbade him to climb into the trusses, he kinda ignored me for much of the day. Make that, TOTALLY ignored me.
He was up in the trusses having the time of his life. I haven't seen him that alive for years.
Thing is. he's 73 years old... almost 74. He absolutely shouldn't have been up there. But he was up there and active and showing us younger guys how it should be done.
He was amazing. I learned so much today. He taught me. He has so much knowlege and experience in the building trade.
He also reinforced my love for life. It needs to be LIVED! Risks are always present, in all we do but if weighed and carefully balanced they can be acceptable... and the rewards are priceless.
There were memories made today I will carry with me always.
We also made remarkable progress on the building today. With an inexperienced crew and an experienced Dad we achieved wonderful things.
This building makes me laugh out loud every time I look at it...it is going to be a wonderful creative space... it just feels right.

Back of the building The big trusses are flat on top to keep them shorter for transport. There's still 8 feet of pointed part to put on top once we get some plywood on the lower part.

Having seen it without the trusses in place, it seemed big, now with the roof taking shape it'll seem huge. Interested in how you are going to 'shape' the roof as per your drawings to achieve that 'flowing' look. Must be proud of your dad, at that age and kicking ass on those high walls. Older parents are like younger children, you are always concerned about them and their safety, but give them some room and they will always amaze you.
